I honestly think k-9 is trash. Everyone I have ever known to have a k-9 alarm has had nothing but problems with it. Personnaly, I have refused to install them in anyones car, even though i've had requests for them.

I used to use them, but haven't seen them around for a while.   K-9 is one of the marketed brand names of Omega Research who make Excalibur alarms (https://www.caralarm.com/pages/productsframe.html

K-9 is the same alarm as Excalibur,  just different name and plastic casing for marketing reasons.   These alarms worked fine for me,  the Color codes on the wire harness were standard and the only problems I had were an occasional parking light relay needing to be replaced or the remote control needing to be repaired, but this can happen with any brand.
