I am installing a remote start/alarm in my 1990 landcruiser and everything seems to be working ok, except the remote start is being weird.

It doesn't work, but I can hear relays clicking under the hood when it engages.  The starter doesnt go though, and it gives up after 3 tries.

However, it does work if I start the truck with the key, then turn it off, leave the key in the ignition and remote start with the other remote.  That is the only scenario so far that I can get it to work.

I have not hooked up the second igintion wire, just the one.  The tach wire is hooked up to +12 volt and programmed to monitor voltage.  The brake wire is not hooked up (yet, still testing) and the hood pin and neutral switch wires are hooked up and working.

Has anyone ever seen something like this?  Is it possible this truck has an immobilizer of some sort?

Thanks in advance!

By that you mean teh brake light I assume?  Or are you referring to the second ignition wire?  From reading the directions I didn't think I needed to hook up the second ignition wire?  If so how can I determine where the second ignition in teh vehicle is?

Thanks!

if there is one it should be in the same pace as the rest of the main power wire. and it should test the same as a regular ignition.  you could try putting the key in the ignition and turning it to ignition and then trying to remote start it, if it works then thats your problem

key in the ignition on? or off..
if off, possible chipped key?
if it's on. then you're missing an ignition/acc wire.
ig BLACK / YELLOW
ig2 BLACK/ blue
acc blue/red
start BLACK/ white
12v- black or BLACK/ green
you will need all of those to successfully remote start this car

i'm guessing it's the ignition wire
i can't picture any 1990 toyota needing a bypass

So I just went out to see exactly what it takes to get it to remote start . . .

First i have to start the truck

Shut it down

turn key all the way to off position

leave key in ignition

remote start and it works and continues to run.

If I shut it down with the remote and immediatley try to start it again without touching anything it will no longer start.  It just starts the one time after the truck was started with the key.

If I take the key out of the inition after starting it with the key and then try a remote start is sounds like the starter just starts to crank, but that's it.  And it could be a relay or solenloid under the hood making the noise.  The truck starts in 24 volt so the solenoid to switch over from 12 volt makes some noise (I assume that's what the noise is)

If I try without starting the truck first it doesn't matter where I put the key, it won't crank.  I tried in off, acc, and ignition . . . nothing.  Just some clicking under the hood . . .

Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

This thing has a laser cut key, did north american landcruisers have laser cut keys back in 1990 does anyone know?

Maybe it's possible there is an immobilizer in there being that it's from Japan?

No, North American Cruisers had a standard cut key in 1990.  No factory immobilizer system in 1990 either.

Hope this helps,

Ryan

thanks . . .  I am really starting to wonder if it has an immobilizer in it?

does anyone have any ideas about the scenario I posted above?

Yeah. Remove the tach wire from the 12v source like you stated above, and see  if it'll start.

We could prolly be more helpful if you gave more details. What brand/model?

Now that we're on the second page I thought I would post the scenario that will allow this to start again . . . just to make things easier:

I tried in off, acc, and ignition . . . nothing.  Just some clicking under the hood . . .

Has anyone seen anything similar before?

Thanks again for all the help so far!
