I have installed a Scytek remote starter and a Fortin GM-SL on a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix. Now all the gages on the dash will go out. They will work when you first start the car but after you start going they will quit. Does anyone have any Ideas? I have check all of my connections, doesn't seem to be any thing loose. The car will be OK then just stop, It seems like there is some sort of interference and the gages will cut in and out.

There are two pink wires in the BCM plug that meter as ignition. To verify that the correct wire is being energized for remote start, slide the key in the ignition key cylinder and then activate remote start. Remove the GM-SL and see if this persists.

This problem happens when car is stated with the key. The remote starter is not on at this point. I followed the wiring that you showed, except for the locks and the trunk I used the GM-SL for that. Also I haven't tried unhooking any of the componets yet.

If the GM-SL is still active during key take over, it will cause problems with the OEM system. That means that there's some residual ground left in the ground when running wire and can cause the unit to still be sending a signal to the vehicle causing potential problems. The Grand Prix has had this problem before with other installer's, just do a search on the forums for the 2004/2005 GP and see what other's did to remedy this problem.

I have talk to tech support and they do have record of any problems. I have looked over all the other post on this web site and didn't find same problem. I have noticed that there are a lot of different problems with the 04/05 pontiac grand prix. I asked the dealers service center for help and he said that my power source is interfering with the BCM. What I was wondering where is a good spot to get constant and ignition power? I am using the BCM for ignition as stated in the wiring, but the dealership said I shouldn't do that.

GM-SL does not bypass transponder on this vehicle. Make sure your blue wire is disconnect and your pink wire hooked up to ignition. You can use the GM-TBU (from crimestopper) for your transponder bypass.

I have had this same problem on another Grand Prix before. In my case the problem was the ransponder bypass that another installer had used. It was a Class II data bus interface. I had to use a PKU-GM module to fix the problem. The door locks/alarm functions can all be handled by wiring into the correct circuits at the BCM. As for main power, it is recommended to use the thick red battery wires in the harness under the passenger side dash. They go to the fuse box on the end of the dash. Do not use the battery power to the BCM as it isn't rated for the current draw a remote starter demands. If you don't have access to a PKU-GM a universal bypass with an extra key in it will work too. To confirm that the bypass is the problem, unplug it and try the remote starter with a key in the ignition switch, but not turned to the on position.

I had the same issue when the first 04's came out with bypasskits pkg5, my problem may have been a little different, but let's see....I would remote start, enter vehicle and insert key, hit brake and drive away and guages would go out, low fuel and trac off light in ipc. shut car off, restart with key and everything works. sound right? I believe it is protocol inside gm-sl not jiving with the g prix, but the new www.bypasskits.com work just fine. The other issue with those vehicles is if you use a key, you have to use a keysense shut off to the anti theft bypass so the car doesn't see two keys at the same time or you will get a service theft system light in ipc. hope this helps and any other q's let us know... good luck ------------- My rifle is my friend...
