Does anyone have any recent input on how well the DEI-457g is doing out in the field. I know when it first came out they had alot of problems. Is anyone still using them? I am planing on putting it on a 2003 Envoy. It seems DEI stopped making the 455g for the door locks and we are stuck with the 457g. I have heard that the 457g does not do drivers door priority but that is a selectable option on my Envoy so it should work no matter what module is used. Any input on this would be great DEI does not go into alot of detail on the modules just brief desctription. Thanks

I have not had any problems with them(457g). You may want to look at bypasskits.com gmdlp I believe is the model (long night), I started using the recenently and they give more flexibilty on options to program. Hope this helps your decision.

The bypasskits.com module cost alot more and I only do a couple installs a year it is hard to justify the cost of the programming module also. Is it really worth that much more money and what are the extra features that you get.? Niether manufacturer tells you what the modules do besides door look and passlock. Bypasskits.com says it does heated seats, memory seats, memory powered mirrors, heated mirrors, & defrost. Is that for all vehicles and how do you select those features to turn on or off. The manual I download does not explain that at all. Thanks Alot

from what I understand the programmable units like that are vehicle dependant on the features that they can control. To program them there is just software you put on your computer and then you plug the module into the computer and program it looking at switching to just this for our shop. We do sell autopage and their bypass modules for gm I know on that piece it has inputs for several different options so all you'd need is a wire to trigger that and you'd be good going to see if I can find a part # for you.

How much does the GMSL cost? Also has anyone ever tried to find the factory keyless entry module and tie into that for lock/unlock? I know that my 99 silverado has the keyless entry module under the dash but I can't find it on the 2003 Envoy. Thanks

An Envoy is electrically the same as a Trailblazer. If you search for Trailblazer and 457G on this site you will see a LOT of people with problems. Most common problem is the rear hatch not locking.
I installed DEI products for years. I opened up my own shop and went exclusivly with bypasskit.com modules. They were cheaper, and work more reliably than DEI products. I think there minumum order is two kits, but you save a lot more is you order 5+ at a time.
They have modules that require a programmer to change the software so they work on different cars. They have model numbers that start with XK__. They cost more then the kits that just do one type of car, but you don't need to stock as many units. I never ordered them. I always used the vehicle specific pieces.
They also come out with modules for newer vehicles quicker than DEI. I still don't think DEI has anything for the new 2007 GM SUV's.
The GMDL-BP will do priority unlocking on your Envoy. There is a programming button on the side of the module that gets used when installing it. The 457G doesn't have the option.
There is no "keyless entry module" that you can tap into on your Envoy. Data signals are sent between computer modules to control locking and unlocking.

JWorm has it right.
The 457G doesn't turn on the domelight when unlocking, doesn't turn on the factory exterior lights when unlocking (GM's "permiter lighting" feature)......and it doesn't do driver's-priority unlocking, no matter how you adjust the personalization settins on the car.
Add all that to the design flaw about the tailgate not locking.......the 457G is a product that is five years late to market, is missing several key features, and doesn't work properly.
As Worm said, the bypasskit.com GM-DLBP does NOT require a special cable for programming. Just hook it up, program it using the button on the side (it's easy), and it works flawlessly.
The modules starting with XK are more costly, and require the cable to change what kind of car they'll do.........it's a versatile piece of inventory for a professional shop, but not necessary for your own car.
You're just buying one piece, for your own car, right? The retail prices on the bypasskit.com site are quite high......dealer cost is much lower. You might find a local dealer willing to sell you the part cheaper than the website.
The ONLY thing I don't like about the GM-DLBP is that if your car's battery is disconnected, or goes dead, the module will have to be reprogrammed.
On the Trailblazer/Envoy, there is a small panel on the left side of the dash, not far from the headlamp switch.....it pops out easily.
You might want to pop that panel off, and zip-tie your bypass module to the wiring harness for the headlight switch. Then, if your battery ends up dying, you need nothing more than a butter knife or a strong key........just pry that panel off, and you can quickly reprogram the module.

Thanks alot guys. That was the info I need to make a descision. I have seen alot of people having problems with the 457g and that is why I have done so much looking around to find what else is available. I first purchased a DEI 555L last year to get the remote starter going during the winter and I liked that module very easy to install. I was then told to use the 455G for the door locks but DEI has gone to the all in one module that seems to be their downfall right now. Thanks again.

Hey how does the GM-DLBP work the power seat memory, mirror memory, & radio channel memory. Also I found the panel next to the headlight switch when installing the APS996, What a perfect place for GM to give for installing things like this. I have the APS996 velcro to the side in there easy to get to and work on. Thanks Again

The 455G was a good and reliable piece, although I prefer one module that does locks and Passlock........when you have to install three separate products into one car, it is difficult to have it come out looking neat, and still be finished in a reasonable amount of time.
As far as the settings for Driver 1 and Driver 2, the GM-DLBP is ALWAYS Driver 1. As far as I know, this applies to all the other brands as well.
If you want your two afermarket remotes to behave as Driver 1 and Driver 2, it is possible, but difficult.
The APS-996 has the option of linking the auxillary outputs to the unlock buttons on each separate remote........the instructions are VERY unclear about how to do it, but it is listed as one of the features of that alarm.
If your truck has pushbuttons for Driver 1 and 2 on the door, you could do some testing behind the switch......figure out how the switches work......run wires into the door......and use the channel linking from the Audiovox, to activate relays, to duplicate the function of hitting the switch.

Yeah thats what i figure I have to do with the driver memory setting. I have had the switch off and looks pretty simple just a bit more work but sure will be better than having 2 fobs on each key chain. I agree with the mulitple modules I will gladly remove the 555l and replace it with one module to keep the clean look. You see so many installs that are just push up under the panel and no one ever sees it but I know what it looks like under there. Hey when connecting to the OBDII pin#2 are you soldering into the wire from behind or pushing a pin in front the front? Thanks

You mean the purple wire for the databus signal, on the OBDII port?
I just go right to the wire behind the plug, strip a little of it open, and splice the new wire just like any other wire in the car. We usually don't solder where I work, but of course it would always help to do so.
Pushing the wire in from the front would work, but then the dealer would have a hard time connecing their scan tool during service.

Ok good I was not sure if by connecting to the back side to the OBDII port would give a scan tool a false reading. I always solder in a vehicle it makes for such a solid connection. Any ideas on how to find a GM-DLBP dealer in the chicago land area? Thanks
