I just installed a RS in a 01 Durango with the 5.9 motor. The problem I'm having is trying to get the bypass module to program. First I tried a CHDL3-PK. I followed the directions(I've done this type of bypass programming many times before) and everything goes right until you go to add the bypass's chip into the system. It seems like it doesn't want to add a third code. I then tried several PKU-CH units with the same result. Any suggestions besides going to a universal bypass(one that uses a key)?
There are only two things I've ever seen that would cause this problem - First one was my own fault and the best way to learn is from someone else's mistake: long story short, I didn't wait long enough for the third code to program. I entered key program mode, and when I held the box up to the key cylinder, I just wasn't waiting long enough. Same with if you use the diesel mode of the remote start to program, sometimes they crank before the bypass programs. Use jumper wires and make sure you jumper BOTH ignitions, just in case. (sometimes this throws an engine trouble code, but it will reset automatically after I believe 10 key cycles)
The other thing that happened was on a little later model durango, I think it started in 03, where there was a recall on the factory WMA module that will not allow you to program another key manually. This made me rip my hair out because I had a few vehicles I did (pacifica, 2 durangos) that I had no clue what I was doing wrong and customers up my @$$, turns out FACTORY ISSUE. Call dealer and see if yours fell into that era of the recall. That's all I know! Good Luck!

I usually remove the back of the module to find the placement of the chip inside the modules to ensure that the chip is infact TOUCHING the key cylinder.

make sure, you have the RED / white accesory wire energized during transponder programming, if it isn't, you are wasting your time.
I just make a jumper to go from the RED / white to the BLACK/ orange for programming, then remove it and tape up wher you stripped the wire. It's not needed for remote start function.
