remote start connections

i was adding a accessory to my remote start/alarm and found that none of my connections were soldered they were just twisted around each other. Best Buy installed it, how come shops like that don't solder and isn't that bad if connections are not soldered

Yah....thats the "hack" way out of a job....sad..... Did you pay for that install? if so, return it and ask them to do the job correctly. If you didn't...solder the connections yourself if all work properly.

Ehh, i still think thats better than T-Tap. Cuz it makes a good solid connection. I really doubt that the connect will become loose over time, but yea ask them to solder it so it last forever.

if you took it to best buy, then they use what is known as a Military t-tap, the term supposedly comes from the need for military personnel needing to make a electrical connection while in the field. and since the objective to carry out only what you need into the field...it's alot easier to carry a pair of wire stippers and some electrical tape than it is to lug around a soldering gun and srinkwrap and other assorted tools.

i'm not saying that what they did was the best way to do it. b/c it surely is not, but due to the retarded policies, best buy does not use T-Taps nor do they solder (Which is F***in' stupid.

my advice...if you want to take your vehicle to a corp shop ie. best buy or circuit city...go to circuit b/c they solder ALL of their connections, and not only for alarms...stereos too!

If the wiring splice is done correctly, by first piercing the wire strands with the new wire and then wrapping them back on themselves, this type of connection is very good and strong. Properly taping the wires is crucial too. Believe it or not, this is the way car manufacturers want it done. If the wires are 10 gauge or lower then, yes you should solder them to insure proper current flow. I've been doing it this way for over 25 years and have yet to have a wire come undone. I have also seen many wires that have been soldered, corroded due to chemical reactions between the copper wire and the wrong type of solder used. Most shops will solder their connections if you ask, but expect to pay a little more for it. The whole point is to insure a good and strong connection that lasts and doesn't introduce resistance.
