Hi guys, I tried a search but didn't find anything that really helped me. I have a viper starter/alarm combo with an avital 802231 remote - not sure what alarm/starter system. The battery died for quite a while, a few weeks at least, and now that I've charged it back up the remote isn't working anymore. I put a new battery in the remote but it's still not working. Is there some kind of resetting I need to do for the alarm? The alarm will not shut off and I can't start the car now - it's a 1990 volkswagen corrado manual. I'm in a bit of a rush as there are people coming to look at it tommorow (selling it, or trying to anyways). Thanks for any help.

You need to reprogram your remote to the alarm.
Im pretty sure your alarm starter is the Viper 550 esp.
Turn ignition on.
Press valet button 8 times*. Presss it once more and HOLD it
Press any button on your remote.
Turn ignition off.
*(if 8 doesnt work, try 1)
Is that Avital remote the one that works with DEI? (describe it)

I'm not sure what DEI is, but it's a three button remote with a door lock/alarm button, valet button and trunk button.

That remote works,
Do 9 instead of 8 from the above post. (cuz arm/disarm is on the same button)
if this still doesnt work, you probably got the viper 550hf. which is 1.

I tried 9 and 1 and neither worked - I'm guessing I need a new remote? Thanks again for all the help.

The led in the car didn't change it's sequence at all and the alarm will not respond to the remote after trying what you suggested.

That remote works and im 100% sure.
If you have time, get the brain model.
Is it in valet mode, where the LED remain constant?
Cause your not entering programming mode, the LED should blink the set of numbers according to your code.

The LED is blinking 5 times at a time, doesn't change. I've tried the buttons 8 times, 9 times and once with no changes. Any other ideas? I've sold the car as long as I can start it, this is the hugest pain ever! Thanks for the help captainzab

You are pressing the velet button under the dash when you do this right and not just the buttons on the remote?

hahahaha, turns out that's all I had to do. I thought the valet was a button on the remote (I have no idea when it comes to alarms). I hit the button under the dash and it turned the alarm off. I tried holding it while I hit the remote but the alarm remains shut off. Any idea now? Thanks too, the car is running so now I can get my moola!
