I am having a hard time figuring out what kind of wire system I have for the door locks on a 1998 Cavalier. If any one could tell me what type of sytem it is I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Non keyless cars, locks are reverse polarity and they are mastered from the passenger side switch. Keyless cars, locks are positive trigger

Just curious, how are you bypassing the Passlock I?

It is a non keyless car so you are saying it is reverse polarity. When you say the pasenger switch is the master does that mean you havee to wire it on the passenger side or can you tap into your wires at the drivers kick panel?

J Rilla---

I had asked you earlier in the week about the Passlock 1 and you told me how to bypass it. Well I ended up using the bypass module. After I figured out how to read the resistance the right way I set the bypass module and it worked for me. But just for reference in case I have problems with it, you told me to get a trimpot...is that the also known as a trimmer? I asked the guy at radio shack for a trimpot and didn't have a clue and neither did I. Let me know.

a trimpot is short for a potentometer.  it is called a trimpot because you can dial in the resistence.  a 0 to 10k ohm should be fine for any installation.  try to get them with a stiff dial if you can.

I would grab the wires on the passenger side in the kick panel.  If you want to try the drivers kick you can but i hate when I do that and then waste my time because it doesn't work.   I grabbed mine in the passenger kick and they worked so it is worth the 3 extra feet of wire.

I am very interested in how your passlock bypass turns out.  What module did you use?

So far the bypass module has been working. I am using a Bulldog part # 781 bypass module. I am also using a Bulldog remote starter unit. I am not to convinced that Bulldog brand is that great but the starter was a x-mas present so I figured it was worth a shot at hooking up. The directions aren't to clear and the tech support sucks. But as far as the bypass module the directions are pretty clear. After finding the correct resistance you look up in a chart that shows you the correct position of the dip switches. And like I said so far so good...I guess I will wait and see if it lasts.

On the wire diagram for the 1998 Cavalier it shows the colors for the door lock and unlock....then it shows colors for driver's lock(gray), driver's unlock(tan), and passenger unlock(white)-----are these last three wires used and if they are what are they for and where do they belong in the wiring diagram for reverse polarity diagram?? Do you only use the door lock(light blue) and the door unlock(white)??? Thanks for your help.
