Subject: Remote start for Delta DA-1005 Combo

Well,

I have a Delta DA-1005 Combo alarm in a 2000 Mitsubishi Galant ES.  The remote start used to work, but I haven't attempted to use it for years now and have changed the car's battery twice during that time.

Now, when I try to remote start, it tries to start but dies right away.  Then I get the blinking "key" light on the dash (along with the other normal startup lights).

So I am sure that I need to reprogram the alarm to recognize the key's code to bypass the transponder.  Unforunately, I do not have the specific manual and had used the Delta fm-5005 manual for the install years ago (a friend istalled it for me).  All of the rest o fthe alarm's features are working correctly.

The reason I am now trying this is because we lost one of the keys and I want to be able to start the car and use a normal key (without a chip), instead of a new programmed key from the dealer.  I am not trying to be cheap, just practical.  My son will be 16 soon and this will be the car he uses (and loses keys to), so I'd like to be able to keep some "unprogrammed" spares that can be used if necessary.

Thanx in advance...

Elvis

You need to find out if the vehicle has a universal bypass module in it now or if it has the keyless version installed. To find out you need to find the bypass module that is attached to the key cylinder and what was used.

Hmmm...I have t o assume it's the keyless version, since the only "module" I have found is the main one.  Haven't seen any other pieces.    So to verify, I should be able to trace the wiring that comes from the key cylinder, into the alarm?

I'm pretty sure it's the keyless one, since we did not have an extra key to keep with the install.  Only had 2 keys and lost one of them.  I am still going to get more keys and get all of them and the transponder reprogrammed, but will still like to have the remote start working.  Thanx again.

Ugggh!

Well, I did remove the dash plastic covers and search for different modules.  Only found what looked to be the shock sensor.

Reassembled everything and now when I disarm, the doors do not unlock.  I have to use the key.  Also, the auto lock/unlock with the ignition doesn't work anymore.

It arms and locks itself fine and I can lock/unlock all the doors from the driver's door switches.  I looked again tonight and did not find anything disconnected, but since many of the connections are using vampire taps, I can't be sure ('til I go a solder 'em this weekend).

I also broke off one of the wires to the valet switch.  I was going to see if setting the transmitter/remote to default, would allow me to lock/arm and disarm/unlock.  Now I can't do that 'til I solder the wire back to it.

Man, all I wanted to do was get the remote start working again, and made it worse.

Where should I start?  Tips/suggestions?

Latest update:

Traced and soldered most of the vampire-tapped connections and now the doors lock/unlock as they should.  I did not change or make any new connections.

Now, the remote start tries to kick on (overnight last nite) and the battery was dead by this AM.  Jumpstarted it, not knowing it was the remote start that drained the battery.  But went out to the parking lot at work this afternoon and I saw that the remote start was cycling thru, attempting to start the car (all day)... battery's dead again.

I am going to try and disable the remote start feature and just keep the other features, but is this an indication that the brain is having issues?  Time to get a newer alarm?

Thanx in advance for your help.
