I want to wire in a pushbutton for my ignition. The button I am going to use is illuminated for use in the dark so how do I get the light to go out/switch off when the car has started? I don't really want to wire it into the handbrake to switch out the light when the handbrake's off, I'd rather it went out when the engine's fired up. I've tried to find the circuit for the dash lights that go out once the engine's started without any luck.

Any ideas??

Don't use illuminated push button. Buy a 12v LED and a push button separately.
Use a relay to start and turn off the LED.

Does your switch have a seperate positive lead that supplies the internal bulb or does the light illuminate via internal wiring?

the button has seperate leads to provide power to the internal led, if you put them across the battery the led lights up

what if you use a relay? Put IGN to 86, Ground to 85, Constant positive to 30, and 87A to the positive side of the LED. Once you have your car turned on, the key stays in IGN, this activates the relay and kills the power to the LED.

could I not use the alarm unlock neg pulse? or would I need a constant feed rather than a pulse?

im not sure how you would have the light turn on when the alarm unlocks, shouldnt it do that automatically when you unlock the car? my stock one does and my friend had one installed that does it too, eather there is a wire not connected or your alarm may not have that option, dont know why it wouldnt tho, but if anything you could have it come on when the door opens or does it already do that, hopfully

according to the install guide the avital maxx1 does not have this feature, the maxx2 and maxx3 do - very strange as I'm sure it wouldn't have cost DEI much more to include it with the maxx1, apart from that its a superb piece of kit
