Hey all,

I have a 2001 Nissan Maxima and I had my 5204 AstroStart remote started installed...and I love it.  But they didn't install the horn output so guess what I'm doing?!? :)  I have done research and gotten a lot of diagrams but some do it in different ways PLUS I have found two horn leads and maybe one will be easier to wire up.

Here is my cars diagram, I have TWO horns.  The vehicle security horn i can get to honk by touching it to a ground wire.  But I can't get my Steering column horn to honk by touching it to a ground wire.

This is scanned from my AstroStart manul (This should be for a postive horn right?)

This I found in another thread.

This I found on Bulldog security website

Then I thought to look what the relay numbers mean, I found that thread but all of these diagrams are different.  HELP?!?!  Any idea which to use for a replay to wire my horn to my AstroStart?  Which horn to use: Steering wheel column or vehicle security (Smart Entrance)?

Thanks, Aaron

wire your relay like the velocity diagram. you can switch 85, and 86....it doesn't matter. connect the P2-8 to 85 or 86, just as long as the remaining pin is 12v.

30 goes to dk.GREEN / WHITE. The wires lead from the column TO the secu.

Understand: you run the risk of voiding any warranty by getting into this your self. Why don't you ask them to hook up the darn horn. The car finder on the Astro units is cool....they should have offered.

I have twice, they claim that the AstroStart isn't suppose to honk, and I just laughed.  The remote control book says so.  Maybe it had something to do with the extra relay, I dunno.  There a small (2 outfit) shop called Team Electroncis.  They got top of the line stuff and they do a majority of the AstroStarts up here minus dealerships.  Yah, I do want the key finder especially with the range it has.  Well, with the warranty, I bought the unit off of ebay for cheap and they installed it.  So, my warranty is through AstroFlex if any.  But these are solid units so I'm not worried.

There's a much easier way. Since the horn in your car is traveling from the steering column to a horn relay already, it's silly to add another. If you simply grab the negative horn wire in the steering column(It's GREEN / WHITE) or at the BCM you can connect it directly to the remote start with no extra relay at all. I think I have tried your method Mike.  I'll test again sometime soon.

Is there any way to test your idea? (Basically see if it is my AstroStart thats not working right.)   I ordered a $90 multimeter but in the meam time I have a cheap digital radio shack multimeter.

Here are my tests: I have grounded one of the multimeters wire to the chassis, the other to the horn wire (all GREEN / WHITE stripe) under the steering wheel column.  Honked the honk and no beep, kinda hard to hear the meter over the horn but meter should have changed a lil bit cause it did when I touched both leads to the chassis.

I'm not sure what the BCM is, but on the vehicle security horn I can stick a needle in the pin hole and ground that and the horn works.  Thats the BROWN / yellow wire on the smart entrance unit. I think I have also tried connecting that to the AstroStart and no go.

I haven't gotten around to fully connecting the whole relay yet (+12 etc).  And I can't remember all that I have tried so looks like round two wil begin.

Answer any of my ?'s if you would like but Here is my questions... will my continutivity multimeter sound (beep) if I were to connect one lead to the frame and one to the remote start and look the doors or use the car finder?

I guess you can't edit a post

Thanks guys for your help!  I guess I was going after the wrong GREEN / WHITE wire.  Looked at Mikes pic and found a different GREEN/ wire.  Car finder worked then it took a cycle of locking the car before the lock honk kicked in.
