I had a DEI Valet 561R installed in my 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer LS 6Cyl vehicle last year at Circuit City. When I picked it up I noticed several things were wrong. Luckily enough they were able to fix them and off I went. Now, however; when I start my vehicle using the remote starter, it starts fine, and it will run for the preset time. The issue is when I put the key into the ignition, step on the brake, and put the car into drive.....either of these two will happen. 1. When the car is put into drive, I can feel an immediete jerk of the vehicle, and when proceeding on driving it appears that the car is stuck in 2nd gear, without it ever going into first. 2. The car will start off in first, but then when it hits 2nd gear, that noticeable jerk occurs again, and then the car does not return into 1st gear. Note this ONLY happens when it is remote started, and not once has it happened when i start the car regularly. I took it back to circuit city, they claimed they have never heard of anyhting liek this, and it is most likely and issue with the car. I told them this is unlikely, as it only happens when the car is started with the remote. The told me they would reset the system, and if it continues to contact my dealer. I go to my dealer, explain to them of the situation. And although this addition has nothing to do with them, the mechanic i went for a ride with told me that this is not something that is the fault of the vehicle, that it could possibly be a bad relay in the remote start system (which tells me that I was right and Circuit City was wrong) So my questions are....has anyone heard of something like this before? Is this remote starter defective, or is it just "incompatible" with my car? Given it was installed 8 months ago, what are my options in getting this issue resolved whether it be having the unit removed and going somewhere else to have a different one installed (big expense, want to avoid) OR going back to Circuit City, somehow convincing them it is a defective remote starter and having them replace it at no cost. I've been putting it off this whole summer as it never really bothered me before, but now that the cold is coming it's something I would like to use without having to turn off my car after it has already been remote started and then starting it up manually with the key. I'd like to thank you all for your input in advance.

The Trailblazer does have a second ignition wire wire that if i remember correctly runs the transmission control module. It's a white wire and must be powered up when remote started. When it's not it causes transnission problems like you describe. I'm sure they would be smart enough to hook this wire up, but you never know....

Where can I find if this wire is connected or not. I would like to see for myself if this is the case, then I can actually show the guys. I know they installed the remote starter module under the steering column, would it be connected to this unit? If so, what color would the wire be on the 561R that the white wire would need to connect to. Also where is this TCM located?

I would suggest that you do not attempt to mess with the install at all. I know at my shop if a customer does this, the warranty is void and I will not work on the vehicle. Take it back and politely tell them to correct the problem, new brain and double check wiring and connections whatever it takes.Did the mechanic test anything or possibley scan it? Just so you know if this was not connected you would have had problems right away.... -------------

The wire would be in the ignition harness, it's white. It should have a pink or pink/white from the DEI attached to it. While it wouldn't hurt to pull the knee bolster down and look i wouldn't alter any wiring under there. As Jeremy pointed out it will void warranty....

Very good point.... if that 2nd ign isn't hooked up the tranny will do odd things, usually give a check engine light on rs... however Trailblazers are known for computer problems...had one last year that would pop out 4wd codes.. I knew it wasn't the rs but the dealer insisted it was... little to his knowledge we pulled the rs brain, and recconected a few things and had them hook a scanner to the truck... low and behold after driving with the scanner for about 2 weeks the computer started poping all kinds of codes... nothing to do with the rs at all, they just ate some crow and coughed up a bcm and pcm...... But my freind has on without a rs in it at all and has had that tranny problem too... Soooo... I would bring it to a [different] shop and have it looked at.. just to be sure... I have heard of the early data bypasss confuseing things on trailblazers and envoys, too....

Thank you all for your input. Earlier today I took off the underdash and In fact noticed that the white wire was connected to a pink/white wire as Mike stated. I guess that throws out that possibility. I wasn't dumb enough to mess with the wiring, I was just looking at the situation....so anyways... I tested the remote start feature a few times today, and tried something new...Going back to when the situation occurs, I would turn the key, step on the brake and put the car into drive. Today however, instead of doing that, I paused after I turned the key and stepped on the brake. Realizing that this process might be something that is activating certain modules/computers related to the transmission. And b/c of this pause, I did not seem to experience the problem today. HOWEVER...I did not try to do a rush start again to make certain of this, as I had a time contraint. I will try again tomorrow and post my results. On a side note I just rememberd that when the first time i got my car back and whether i RS start it or regular start the service engine soon light came on. I took it back they told me it was a problem with the car to take it to a dealer. I told them nonsense, they took it back and they did something and haven't seen that light come on since. Question for Hymer: As the situation of your friend is describing might very well be related to mine, what do you mean when you say "they just ate some crow and coughed up a bcm and pcm"? What type of scanner would the dealer need to hook up to the truck? I might further pursue this, as this might be another reason as to why I am experiencing other tranmission issues while car shifts from 3rd to 2nd and clunks (unrelated to the remote start of course) but could lead to something worse that I would hate to pay for after my warranty. Thanks again to all.

I had never seen one before, it was an actual gm tool... it plugged into the diagnostic port [by the e brake] and had a cig plug to power it.. it was a pain to drive with this thing hooked up... anyway te dealer ended up replaceing the body controle module [bcm] and powertrain control module [pcm] wouldn't say what happened... just replaced them.... but these light duty GMsuv's are notorious[around mn at least] for electrical bugs....
Good luck!
