I have a 94 Buick LeSabre Limited.  I want to put a remote start on it.  It has a chip in the key.  Am i going to need anything extra to add the remote start?

The car has VATS, which stands for Vehicle Anti Theft System.  It was GM's earliest immobilizer, introduced on the 1986 Corvette.

The chip in the key is simply an ordinary resistor; there are 15 possible different resistors.  Some remote starters come with a package of the 15 different resistors you might need---some don't.  If it's not included, you can buy resistors at Radio Shack or other electronics stores.  In either case, of course, you'll need a multimeter to measure the value of your particular key.

Once you get the resistor, you have two options.  You can wire the resistor directly into the car, which is easy, but it bypasses VATS forever----your car would be easier to steal.  Or, better yet, you can use an ordinary automotive relay, so that VATS is only bypassed while your remote starter is on.  Any quality remote starter will include a relay schematic for VATS interface.
