I'd like to disable my 508D with a 2 hour timer when I leave the dog in the car.

My concern is that I'd not always remember to turn it back on and therefore the 2 hour timer.

Any suggestions on what timer/relay to use and where to get it?

Is it best to use it to break the black [ (-) ground when armed ] wire?

Most dei alarms that have the plug in port for 508d have a sensor disable when arming. If not you can use a switch to turn it off and on....

If its a DEI alarm, then you can do MultiLevel Security Arming (and you have to have seperate arm and disarm button)
how it works:
Pressing lock once will arm your car
press again within 5secs and zone #(dont know what alarm u have) and that zone is bypassed

you want to keep pressing arm until you get the the right zone (you 508d)

read your owner's manual to know what is what

Thanks, mine is being used as a single (Interior) alarm only and is tied in with the VW factory alarm. (No separate remote).

I know I can simply add a switch to enable or disable the alarm. I've done that.

I now want to add a timer that runs down in, say, 2 hours.

The idea is that I disable the 508 alarm when the dog is in the car, which is never more than one hour.

In the past I have forgotten, on occasion, to turn the 508 back on and then discovered a few days later that I was locking the car without activating the motion sensor.

By adding that timer, the 508 will automatically arm again when I lock the car the next time (as long as that is past the set timer duration).

Just wondering if someone knows of a small timer with a button that would suit this application.

Use a TR7 as a timer relay to break the trigger wire for the time you need upon arming.

not to answer the question, but it is possible to put a toggle switch on the power supply for the 508D right?

Thanks for the suggestions.

It looks like the DEI 611 T only times in seconds and doesn't go out to 1-2 hours.

Haven't found the spec's for the TR7 yet (except that it has 4 cylinders and a stick shiftposted_image).

Finally had a chance to look at the TR7 features and specs. It looks like it can not be timed beyond 4 minutes.

Pity.

I have used Altronix timer modules before. Can be set for up to 60 minutes. https://www.securityideasvar.com/browseproducts/Altronix-6062-Timer-Module.html
