I have a 2001 Olds Alero. I recently lost my key and had to drill out the ignition lock. I was successful at my attempt and was able to remove the ignition lock. I purchased a new one at Chevrolet. I brought them my title and reg and they retrieved the vehicle key code and cut me 2 new keys. I took the keys and lock to a reputable locksmith due to time restraint as suggested by parts person. The lock was coded to the keys and I then installed the new lock and reassembled everything. The car starts and runs fine but I have a steady security light. Is there an easy solution and if not, I'll take any information available.

Your car has Passlock II. It is an immobilizer system built into the key/ignition cylinder/switch. It is separate from your key cylinder, but is a a part of the ignition barrel. It has three wires attached to it. Usually black, white and yellow. You may have damaged it in the process. I would suggest that you find a dealer or knowledgable mechanic that can repair it for you. There are many possibilities of what could have happened.
