Hello,

I left my lights on for about 5 hours in my `98 Jeep Wrangler Sahara the other day. When I came out, the headlights were still working, but obviously the engine wouldn't start. I hooked up a battery jumper pack (that was not fully charged by any means) to it, tried to start the vehicle, but it wouldn't start and the alarm went off.

Anyways, I have since tried to both use a fully charged battery pack and jumper cables to another vehicle to get it started. Both options have not been successful in starting it up. A new battery was installed on the Jeep less than a year ago, so I am guessing the battery is not the problem.

I do have an after-market alarm on the jeep that was installed before I purchased the vehicle. Therefore, I know nothing about it, no brand/model number or operating instructions. The alarm does have the motion sensor "radar" feature for when the top is off.

I am assuming the engine will not turn over because of an anti-theft feature of the alarm, but I have no clue to turn it off. I obviously do not know much about alarm systems, so any help anyone could give is highly appreciated.

There is a flip switch under the dash on the driver's side that I know has to do with the alarm, but am 100% of its function. Next to the toggle switch is a black button as well that arms/disarms the system. The key chain remote to the alarm is black, with two buttons, I and II, if that helps at all.

I attempted again today to make some sense out of the configuration I have, but didn't really figure anything out.

So far, I have flipped the toggle switch both ways and tried to start it. Also have pushed the black button and held it in for a couple seconds, but the engine wont start.

The alarm will still arm/disarm with the remote and the siren will sound as normal.

Here are some pictures of the remote and the switches I have under my dash. They probably won't help much, but oh well. I am not sure what to do to get this thing started.

The back of the remote just lists patent numbers for various countries. When button I is pressed, the alarm arms/disarms. When button II is pushed, nothing really happens although the LED light on the remote does light up.

So, anyone know anything about alarm systems?

Thanks for reading and I appreciate any suggestions/info.

You may have put the unit into a logic lock up. If your headlights work and the gauges, radio and climate controls all work when you turn on the key, it is porblably not your battery. Try disconnecting the battery's negative terminal and leave it off for a minute. Hook it back up but have the remote handy. The alarm may sound when you hook up the battery again. If the unit is in a logic lock, this should reset it and allow you to start the truck. Failing that, you will need to pull the dash apart and find the starter kill circuit connections. You need to reconnect any cut wires to bypass the alarm. The starter wire is yellow.

Taking the negative terminal off for a minute or so worked! Thanks a million!
