I guess that "convenience" best fits this topic.

I'm a volunteer EMT, so I have to hop in the car and take call (a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee) at all hours of the night. I have a block heater, but my drive to headquarters is only 2 minutes or so on empty roads, so it doesn't do much good for helping to get the hear warmed up.

Since I have the block heater, I'm already used to unplugging the mains cable before I move the truck.

My idea was to get a heavier mains cable, and split it between the block heater and some sort of space heater, which I could mount in the rear cargo area of the truck, and have it heat the interior of the truck all night. Then, when I have to run, it's already a tolerable temperature.

Does anyone have any opinions/suggestions? I looked around online and couldn't find anything like this. What about safety???

I once saw a setup like this in a paramedic truck (it was one of those old low utility box-bodies on a pickup cab). The had a regular ceramic space heater, like the type you'd find in a bethroom, bolted to a metal shelf on the inside of the back door.

Thanks for any input.
-Jason

how long does it take you to get ready, can put in a remote start, so when you get the call start your car get ready and time you gety down car shold be warm enough. im not on the idel of heaters were it cant be see most of the times and could start a fire.

I have splitter cord that is attached to the block heater and the interior car warmer that we installed into our Accord. We have it plugged into a timer outlet on the wall set to turn on every hour and shut off every hour. If you wanted to you can set it up anyway you want and do the same. This really helps on days that are frosty and there's no scraping of the windshield.

swamprat - I had a remote start, a very nice autopage. I don't know if it was defective, but it was putting a drain on the battery... about 1/10V, which killed it a few times after leaving the car for 3-5 days.

Even when I had it... believe it or not, I can usually go from fast asleep to out the door in 45-60 seconds. Remote start doesn't cut it.

Jeff - what type of interior car warmer? Do you know the make/model or at least a description of it??

Thanks.
