I am gonna install a Viper 5900 remote start on my friends tacoma and wanted to know some things...

Its  a 97 Toyota Tacoma 2wd Automatic....

1. What wire do I cut/splice in to for the neutral saftey switch?

2. What Kind of door locks are they, Like do I need 2 relays to use the power door locks??

Also would there be anything else I should buy to Make the alarm work??

like any bypass moduels or anything, My friend told me that these cars had an alarm in them or is it just a keyless entry thing??

The locks are negative pulse, RED / white and RED / yellow, in the drivers kickpanel. No relays needed. No neutral safety switch needed either for an automatic. No bypass, Tacoma's didn't need them until 06. If it has an alarm, it's either aftermarket or dealer installed. There was no alarm option in 97...

ok kool,

For the door locks no relays needed just tap in to it an it will work without a relay??

So how would I go and install the remote start?

Also I dunno but there is a red ststues led on his steering column and I guess it is a factory installed alarm, so how would I go and bypass it if it is??

Nope don't need relays for the door locks. If it has a dealer installed alarm the only sure way to find out what is, is to find the brain in the dash somewhere. Follow the wires from the led and they lead to it. Get the model number and make of it and I am sure someone will have some info on it. Print off a diagram of this truck and remember to verify what a wire is before connecting it, they are pretty straight forward to install a remote start on.

Honestly, if you are installing an alarm/RS combo the best thing to do is just remove the dealer installed alarm....

No it doesn't. I'm pretty sure factory keyless wasn't even an option back then....

mustangfoo - by the way I installed the same alarm on my 87 mustang two weeks ago and its a 5spd and been working great...

I was asking how to do a remote start on an AUTO because its different from a 5spd.
