OK i've done a few remote starts and none have given me any trouble except for this one. It's on a 1990 nissan 240sx. It's a BOA by dei 165b. And my problem is that i can't seem to get it to learn my transponder. I do the steps that it tells me and it just won't learn it. The only thing i haven't hooked up so far on the system is the parking light + trigger because i need another relay i'm getting tomorrow. since the unit only has a - output for parking lights. But it says in the manual hte parking lights are optional. Anybody have any ideas as to where i should look? i checked all my connections on ignition wire etc, starter wires etc. and i had 2 starter wires so i hooked them up like the program that came with the remote start said to using 2 relays. I'm just really confused since i've never had any problems like this. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. thanks.

ok now my problem has changed a bit..... it seems to be programming now i hooked up a dmm to it and what not so now it should be programmed. But it won't even start to crank nor will it start heat or anything. I have 2 starter wires and one output only on the boa unit.so i wired it like this with 2 relays.

relay one-
87-12v
87a-nothing
86-starter wire output off brain
85-ground.
30-first starter wire

relay two-
87-12v
87a-nothing
86-starter wire output off brain
85-ground.
30-second starter wire

NOTE-second relay doesn't have 87a I figure it's ok since 87a isn't even used with this. let me know if you think there's anything i need to address

Have you verified that you indeed have +12V to the purple wire from the 165B when it is supposed to start? Do the parking lights flash in any type of pattern when you attempt to start the vehicle?

They do not flash when I attempt to start it but they flash to confirm i "programmed it". Is there another way i could wire the 2 starter wires to one output with only one relay?
Thanks

Did you verify that you are getting voltage output to the starter wires when remote starting? You have them wired correctly for that system.

ok well it seems that when i try remote starting it there is no output to the starter wires at all... What do you think would cause that? Any help greatly appreciated
thanks!

Is the "starter wire output from brain" connected to terminal 86 a positive or negative output?  On most RS systems it would be negative, and you'd need to have 12v+ on terminal 85 to activate the relays.

Starter wire output from the brain is positive output. And now i can get it to start by tapping the WHITE/ blue-Remotestart activation input to ground twice. It will program and whatnot but the remote doesn't seem to do much for me. it'll only start by tapping that wire to ground twice and holding it there..... anyone have any suggestions?

Please do not be offended when I ask this, but are you making sure you press the start button twice within 3 seconds?

haha yeah i am pressing start twice within 3 seconds. The only thing i can think of now is to maybe replace the battery? i don't know i guess i'll try it. couldnt hurt i guess.

Just had to ask, you would be surprised how many people I have had to explain that to when showing them their system.

Do the parking lights flash when you attempt to start by remote? Does the system respond to the transmitter at all?

The parking lights do not flash when i attempt remote start. Although they do flash when i am "programming" it so i assume the meands the system did respond to the transmitter. Although it does take 3-5 times for it to "program"

I just re-read the manual for it, and it shows no type of programming that requires use of the remote. As a matter of fact I saw no way to add another remote either.

Go ahead and try another battery in theremote, see if that fixes it. Keep us posted.

Well the manual i got with the unit says to "program the unit by putting key in on position and wait 5 seconds and hold program, and wait for parking lights to flash to confirm it's been programmed" Not an exact quote but that's the basic idea. Well i did the new battery idea and it will remote start literally 1 out of maybe 10 tries so i narrowed it down to the remote. I'm going to see if i can find another replacement one or at least a universal dei one. anyone know of any? Thanks for the help so far i appreciate it.

Ok well a bit of an update. I got it working more and more now almost every try it will work with the new battery. I still think the transmitter might have some issues. but nonetheless i'm happy with it and thanks a lot for the help.
