Hi,

I have just installed a Compustar 2w900 Remote Starter on my 02 Silverado.  Remote Start is working fine, however, I notice that when I remote start that the battery light stays on in the message center until I insert my key and turn it to on.  Is that correct? Everything else seems fine (guages, etc)

Also, I can't for the life of me, get the door locks to work.  I know I am on the correct wires at the BCM (Brown Plug- Light Blue and White) and have confirmed with my DMM.  I know they are positive pulse and have reversed the connections out of the Compustar to get positive pulse output from it at the right time, but they still don't work.  I have tried to meter the Compustar lock and unlock outputs but don't seem to see any voltage at any time when I use the Compustar remote to operate the lock/unlock function.   I hear the brain receive the signal and the parking lights flash appropriately but the door locks do not work.    Any ideas?  Do I need relays or diodes to make it work?

One more, lol.  Can someone please confirm that the factory disarm wire for this truck is the light green wire in the far right, purple plug of the BCM and the tan wire in the factory re-arm?   Or do I not even need to worry about the re-arm wire.

Any help is reallly appreciated.  Thanks!

Yes that is where the fact. arm and disarm are located. If you don't hook up the re-arm/drivers door pin wire it will not shut the radio down(10min) after its remote started and either the remote times out or you shut it off with the remote. As far as the outputs on the brain I am not that famaliar with compustars.

jhanchey,

You have the correct wire. You may feel pretty silly after this, but you have to close the hood. That's the thing with Compustar unit. The doorlocks on the Compustart unit will not operate if the hoodpin is grouded.

"Can someone please confirm that the factory disarm wire for this truck is the light green wire in the far right, purple plug of the BCM and the tan wire in the factory re-arm?"

Yes, that is where it is!
CHEVROLET, SILVERADO, 2002, Factory Alarm Disarm
Also found in the purple plug of the BCM.

"Or do I not even need to worry about the re-arm wire."

As suggested by xtremej, if you don't connect the rearm wire, the radio will stay on for ten minute or so.

Or the other way for the vehicle to be rearm without connecting the rearm wire is to lock the doors first with the remote before closing it. Factory Alarm will activate that way as well.

The tan wire in the purple plug is only the driver's door pin wire. Pulsing it to ground after shut down will only shut off the radio. To rearm the factory alarm, you need to pulse the tan wire and send a lock pulse to the BCM at the same time.

All,

Thanks so much!  This info is a huge help!  I do have the hood closed.  I notice the Compustar door lock/unlock outputs say they output -250mA.  That's what make me think I need a relay for each (unlock and lock)  so when I pulse the Compustar lock/unlock from the remote the relay sends 12v+ to the door locks to make them work.  I see 12v+ on the door lock/unlock wires at the BCM when I use the door button on the truck.  Do I also need the diode isolate them with the relays?

And ne1 know if the battery light thing is ok for remote start until I get in and put in the key and turn to on?

Thanks for all the help!

The battery light is not normal. What ignition and accessory wires in the truck did you connect?

You can either use a polarity inverter for the doorlocks, or wire up a couple relays. No diodes needed.

I have Compustar GREEN/ Red to Pink Ignition, Compustar RED / White to White Second Ignition, and Compustar White to to Orange Accessory.  I have not connected to the second Accessory Brown, although it is now sounding like I should hook Compustar blue to it after setting the jumper at JM1 for second accessory?

Also thanks about the relays...I will wire a couple up for the locks.

Please recheck your wiring again!

"Compustar RED / White to White Second Ignition" Wrong!

There are 2 +12 V constant input on the Compustar unit not one.
Red is the first 12V and RED / white is the other +12V constant. You will need to connect the RED / White to the second +12 v constant in the vehicle.

Brown wire is 2nd Accessory. Not needed!

You need to activate this Blue wire as 2nd ignition. Set the Compustar Blue wire on the jumper as 2nd ignition and NOT Accessory.

It is imprative that you correctly connect the Blue wire and set as Second Ignition to the corresponding Second Ignition on the vehicle. Otherwise, the vehicle will have shifting issue and transmission damage may followed.

Oops....I see that I read the wiring info incorrectly for the Compustar now, duh.  Thanks so much!  I will do that and let you know how it goes!

Ok, Thanks to everyone for your help.  I corrected my wiring problem and all is well.  No more battery light on remote start.  2nd ignition is now powered correctly with the blue wire and 2nd constant 12v+ is connected to the trucks second 12v+.  I wired in 2 relays and the doors are now working as well.  I notice the compustar is disarming the factory security correctly when I unlock but it does not rearm the security when I lock.  I will double check my connection to the tan rearm wire in the purple BCM, but shouldn't the compustar rearm the factory security when I lock?  Thanks again!!!

Doh, never mind on the last questions about the rearm.  Thepencil answered that a couple of posts ago.  The factory system does rearm if I lock before I close the door.  I should be good to go now.  Thanks!
