I am trying to install a DEI 561R R/S into a 2001 Chevy Impala. I installed the 551L Passkey interface. I am pretty sure that is working because the car will not start if it is unplugged. Now my problem. When I press the * key on the remote, nothing happens. The lock/unlock button makes the relays click and the parking lights flash. As far as I know there is no factory alarm. Thanks in advance.

Yes, I meant 555L. I am pressing the button two times. I just found out the car was purchased from Enterprise rental. I have not connected the lg/b, g/w, y, w/blu, gry/b, wh/r, and r/w. on the primary harness. Do I need to connect any of these? Thanks for the quick reply.

the only wires i connect on that harness are the black-ground and the white-park lights....

i would check the on/off switch under the dash or the pin switch under the hood... these are the two most likely culprits....

That is what I have connected. I have the neutral safety switch connected to ground.

I am sorry for the double post. I don't know how to edit my previous post. I tried to relearn the transmitter and the relays click when I press the * button. When I exit the learning routine still nothing happens.

unplug the pin switch under the hood and see if it starts... the only things that will prevent R/S inializing on these units are the hood pin, the valet switch (NSS wire) or the + brake input.....

Thank you so much. It was the hood pin switch. I disconnected and it worked! Thanks again!

you're welcome... now dont be lazy and leave it like that, but buy a replacement hood pin.... should run you about 3-4 bucks.....
