I just installed a remote starter in a 1995 Chevy Lumina. The car starts but the engine takes off and revs like it is floored. Tapping the gas doesn't help. The car starts fine when started with the key. Is the remote causing an electrical problem with the fuel injector computer? If so, does anybody have any suggestions on what to do? I've been over the wiring a few times and all seems fine. I'm lost.

That is weird; I've never heard it before. Where'd you get tach? I could imagine that if you used a fuel injector for tach, and then your remote starter was somehow throwing out a ground on its tach wire......the injector could stay open and dump out a lot of fuel, causing the engine to race.........but that's just my wild guess---like I say, I've never seen it before.

I'd go and re-test your tach wire, but do it right at the Bulldog brain inside the car. Or maybe temporarily disconnect the tach wire, program the Bulldog unit to tachless operation, and see if it happens to work that way.

Notes:
*1 Also found low in the drivers kick panel. *2 Only found on some models. A pinswitch must be added on all others. *3 Also located at the ECM at right inner fender forward of the strut tower.

The starter is tachless from the factory. I've tried everything I can think of. Checked the wires over and over and tried changing some of the wires around. Everything works like it should except the engine takes off like Kenny Bernstein heating up his tires. Is there any way to check and see if I just got a defective unit?

Have you started the car with the key and does it do the same thing? throtle is controled by either the gas pedal or the cruise control module and the electronic control module, check where you have been, if the car didn't do this before you started then something youhave done has caused thisso look everwhere you have been there must be a wire cut or grounded or maybe the follr mat is stuck in the gas pedal, ggod luck

I would avoid going tachless on my own car......but in this case, it's useful to know that you're not using tach----we can be pretty sure that you didn't mess up a fuel injector or something like that.

I wouldn't think that the remote starter is defective-----when it's installed properly, none of its connections could ever possibly control the speed of the engine.

Did you already test each and every wire for proper operation, and did you test directly at the Bulldog brain and/or relay pack?

Does the car have a tach guage? Does it work when using the remote to start it?

I hate to say this but I have only had bad experiences with Bulldog. I would not be at all surprised if the brain was deffective. I have installed many remote starts without mishap, and I have spent hours trying to solve problems that came up when using Bulldog. You get what you pay for.

csorb, I've installed a couple of Bulldog units in the past, and I'll agree that they look cheaply made, have lousy range, and lack many important outputs. But putting all that aside, I can't think of one single wire on a remote car starter that would ever affect the car's engine speed when properly installed. I don't think a defective unit is very likely in this case.

Possibly, though, the starter motor keeps on cranking even after the engine is running----this makes a horrible sound, and someone unfamiliar with such things might mistake this for a high-revving engine.

fsun10, try something if you wouldn't mind. Start your engine with the key, but continue to hold the key in the crank position for an extra second, and take note of the sound it makes-----this isn't terribly good for your car, though, so only hold the key there as long as necessary to hear the sound.

After you've done that.......is the sound the same as what you hear when you try to use the remote starter?

Sorry.Of course I wouldn't think that the unit could make the car rev, I understood the problem to be that the unit was holding onto the starter. Interestingly enough though, I have seen problems with the IAC motor on some cars mysteriously happen right after a remote starter install. Perhaps something about the way the ignition wires are starting up is not allowing for proper intitializing of the IAC motor. I'm not a mechanic but just a thought.
