I am looking at putting in a remote start for a 1990 Landcruiser, 70 series. It has the 2L-TE, 4 cylinder turbo diesel. I am looking to buy the Presige APS 56 since I do not want an alarm, just remote start and maybe the remote door lock. I have chased down all of the wiring with regards to the ignition, brake, glow light etc. The one I cannot sort out is the tach input. All of the installation manuals say to look near the coil. This is a diesel, no spark plugs. Does anyone know where the tach signal comes from on this diesel?  I tried looking on the back of the gauge. There is a wiring clip plugged in with 12 wires. Could I tap into one of these? I wrote down the wiring colors if that would help.

Thanks.

The APS56 can be programmed to work without a tach wire. However, some of the install guides i see for it don't mention this.

I was looking in the install manual and it says it can be run without the tach wire for a gasoline engine, but for a diesel, the manual specifically says the tach wire ir required.

Huh, i wonder why. I can't say i've ever done it, maybe it has something to do with glowplug delay....

That is my assumption as well. With the diesel you need the glow plug wait and I guess it needs the verification that the engine is running to ensure it doesn't try to restart.
