I am a newb. I have installed a fair share of amps & head units, but am attempting my first remote start. I will be using a DEI Valet 561r. Do I connect the 12v/ignition/acc wires with the factory wiring still connected to the ignition switch? If so, how can I insert the key and rotate to the "on" position without frying anything? Does the r/s (remote start) module sense that I have turned the key to "on", or am I missing a relay? Thanks in advance.

yes you just connect it to the wires. Dont cut them from the switch. When you put the key in and turn it to run you then put your foot on the brake and that tells the remote start to disengage.

Thank you very much for your reply. I now understand how it disengages, but what about the 2-3 seconds between turning the key & depressing the brake? Do you have to do it simutaneously?

No. Turn the key to the on position.
DO NOT CRANK IT!!! OR ELSE YOU WILL OVERGRIND!!
Then step on the brake, this will let the key take over, instead of the unit.
do a search on antigrind
using a relay and status and starter wire, you can do anti-grind

I'm sorry if you misunderstood. We were talking about turning the key to the "on" positions, not "start".

*Follow up-The install went fairly smooth. I don't understand how the internals of the r/s module work, but they do. As I stated above, I used a DEI Valet 561r. It went into a 2005 Hyundai Sonata GLS w/V6. Everything works great. I didn't need the $50 bypass Circuit City tried to sell, or use the "keysense" wire that was listed on the "Directwire" printout. I went to the website for CrimeGuard remote starts and peeked at their install guides. They were alot easier to understand than DEI's. The factory alarm was left in place. The only thing left for me to do is locate the neutral safety switch wire. Had a hard time finding it, so I just wired in the toggle switch that came with the kit for the time being. Later on I will try to integrate the fuel door into the system. Thank you everyone for your help, and thank you 12volt for an outstanding website.
