looking to expand my detail shop ,were already installing audio with great results, all my customer are looking for security.dont want to jump to fast.were should i start? thanks mike
Start by learning from a very experienced security installer. security and remote starts..especially with todays vehicles can be very risky business..I can't tell you how many repairs i have to do from tint shops and detail shops "failed" attempts. And one wrong move could discharge an airbag or fry a computer or other module and then it's a disaster and expensive.
As well, make sure you know relays, diodes and resistors inside out. Make sure you know how to properly and safely solder and insulate connections inside a vehicle. Also important..ask lots of questions. Neatness is also paramount but you will get neater with over time..as well as faster. You want your finished product to be as stealth as possible..my goal on every security/RS install is to make it so if the vehicle is brought in for warranty work, that the dealer won't notice I did anything to the car. This takes practice and patience.
Now the MOST important..you MUST verify every connection you make with a digital multi meter. You must understand the difference between voltage, current and resistance and how to use the meter to measure these.
But don't be discouraged..we all started somewhere and the truth is there is probably more profit in security/RS/convenience then any other products you can install into a car.
Read up all the info you can on this and other related sites. Also most high quality systems will have really helpful directions as well as online or phone resources to help along the way.
Best of Luck.
