Hi I have a scion tc 07 and i installed a viper 791xv but i don't like it because it's only a 1/4 mile range and i want to upgrade to the viper 5900 one mile range and i don't know what i need.  I've been looking around and i can find anything about it so im wondering if anyone here knows anything about it? I've heard that i could just change the remote. or change the remote and the box or change the remote and the antenna.  I don't know which one it is so i'm asking if anyone would know?

the clifford responder is the same- you can get a more advanced clifford- but it probably is not needed.

Did you coil up the antenna wire and is the ground good. All the 791xv i've done have had great range on them.

did you stretch out the antenna or leave it bunched up under the dash? best to stretch it out as much as possible. Also if you have the antenna in the tint band of the windshield, it can affect range.

Listen to what everyone here is saying, it's probably NOT the 791 which, BTW, has excellent range. If it was installed incorrectly then that WILL effect the range! The antenna wire cannot be bunched up! If it is you will have little range. have you checked this yourself? If the windshield has tint and/or excessive lead in the windshield like some foreign cars then that will also effect the range as well. Also check the battery meter on the remote, it should be good but if it isn't then range will be effected. Instead of just throwing money at the problem, instead make sure you got your moneys worth from whomever installed the unit. Don't assume they installed it correctly. They should be able to contact DEI directly for you and find out if your car has any problems regarding range when installed on YOUR windshield. There is NO reason why a PROPERLY installed 791xv shouldn't give you plenty of range. In other words, the problem most likely isn't the unit, but how it was installed or other outside factors. If you don't find out what these factors are, then you'll just end up spending more money with a 5900 that has bad range too.
