Viper 5000 Alarm, 1978 Buick Electra 225

Ok, well I have successfully installed my alarm into the car (with the exception of a few areas). The main problem is the power lock system. No matter what I do for wiring, either at the switch or at the relay on the passenger side kick panel, nothing works for the alarm to control the locks. I've looked through the manual, and the 1041 techtips document. Unfortunately, after trying all the options listed, I am having no luck getting the locks to tie-in. For those not familiar, the switch is a 3 wire swith. Constant positive (orange), blue (unlock), black (lock). I just cant seem to figure out how to wire this to get the locks to work... The other area of concern is the trunk pin wire. I connected a wire to the ground screw controlling the trunk light, but when system is armed, and trunk is opened, alarm does not go off. All the door triggers work fine, so I thought, why not just try tapping into the neg door trigger wire to see if that works. Still nothing. Ground has been tested and is a good ground (not to mention the light works fine), so any other suggestions would be much appreciated. I simply have too much money invested in my electronics that are housed in the trunk to not have this area secured by the alarm. The power locks are more of a convenience factor than anything. DEI lists your door locks as positive trigger (as you have already stated). You would use this diagram but DEI lists these as possibly requiring 30amps so wire with heavy wire and an adequate fuse for supply.

The ground screw controlling your pin switch? This is probably the ground supply for your light. Does your trunk have a pin switch or mercury/tilt switch? You may have to install your own pin switch to monitor the trunk.

right... thats what i was meaning... the ground for the trunk light... i found no trunk pin, so that must mean its a mercury switch -- although it elludes me as to how this works... but regardless it seems that since that does not work for the trunk monitor on the alarm i will have to install a trunk pin....

but as for the lock issue, if it wasnt enough power or thick enough gauge wire to control the locks.... wouldnt i be at least getting some indication (noise) of it attempting to lock/unlock? as to that I am getting nothing at all... in a few of my attempts at wiring I had miswired, causing the locks to attempt to work and not.... but the locks are continuing to work fine with nothing attatched... and following the tech tip install sheet for the locks, they continue to work fine, just cannot be controlled by the alarm....

Do you have the Installation manual for the 5000? If so, it's explained on page 12. 1st test by jumpering(careful, don't ground it) +12vdc to your blue (unlock) wire and they should unlock, then jumper to the black (lock) wire and they should lock. If this works, then wire the relay as on page 12. Apply +12vdc to H3/D(violet/black) & H3/G (violet). NOTE: the manual states that these are common at a fuse holder, if so, just apply the +12vdc to the fuse's input. Next wire H3/F(blue/black) from the alarm harness to your blue wire(unlock) and H3/C(GREEN/ black) to your black(lock) wire. Should work!
