The check engine light is comeing on and it was checked and reset by auto zone,  they said it was a problem with the brake light circut.   Is there anything I need to do to fix this problem?   I hooked up the lock and unlock feature of the starter, that was the only extra wiring I did.  I did not use a relay for the locks or the running lights.  I used the wires that the remote starter had comming out of it.   Is this my problem,  and why?

Check the hook up at the brake wire, make sure the the plug is plugged in securely at the brake switch. What remote start are you using and what wires did you hook up ie wire colors?

Do you have any trailer light wiring for say a trailer hitch on it?If it does check all the wiring for that and make sure it has not rubbed through or grounded out.... May sound dumb but I have seen something similiar in the past.....

I will check, not sure if there is.    I was also wondering if you have to use relays,  the system worked ok with just the resitors.

Used to use relays now we use the doorlock interface for them. Customers vehicle use relays or doorlock interface your own, if it works without relays its your call.
