Hey guys. I'm installing a cheap remote starter in my 1995 Mazda 626 (manual). When testing the tach wire for on 200 ACV.... I get some strange results:

ignition off: 0V
ignition ON (no start): 26V
ignition START (cranking): goes down to 17V
idle: 30V

I'm guessing I have the wrong wire, but I don't understand how. First I tried the tach wire to the instrument panel, following the wire schematics in my Haynes manual. Then I tried connecting directly to the yellow wire on my coil as listed on the vehicle search on this site. Same result on both wires.

All help is appreciated.
Could anyone please point me in the right direction of where I may be doing wrong?

How you doing the clutch?

Good question I haven't figured that part out yet.posted_image I seem to be reading that clutch bypassing is dangerous. If I can't get it working safely I don't want to install it.

What do you recommend?

I didn't know of the dangers of remote starters in manual transmissions so I probably will end up scrapping the idea.

FYI:

There is nothing dangerous about clutch bypassing. Bypassing the clutch basically means energizing the clutch wire like you would if you were pressing on the clutch pedal. That is simply what it is.

Also, there is nothing dangers about a remote starter in a manually transmission. If you have a remote starter unit that was design for manually transmission vehicle I don't think you will run into any safety issue.

Thanks for the reply thepencil. I guess the only danger would be someone leaving it in gear? Luckily my remote starter requires it to be put into Ready mode every time you turn off the vehicle before it can start... and is disabled if any door is open or parking break is down.

And yeah I do have one designed for a manual trans. I have this one in manual version https://www.autostart.ca/prostart/prod-en_CT-3200.php . I guess Silvrefox made me worry when he said he was nervous.

OK guys ignore the tach wire question. I just tried it and everything works great except for the clutch bypass. I'm not sure why the voltages were reading like that but who knows.... it works great.

Hey guys,

I'm installing a ProStart CT-3260 in my 1995 Mazda 626 M/T.    Everything is working except the clutch bypass. I'm trying to set up the relay to do this, but my 'ground out when running wire doesn't seem to go to ground when the starter is activated.

Initially, the G-O wire reads 0V, and when I try to start using the remote starter, it reads about 4V. And no time does it give anywhere close to 0 ohms either, it seems to stay at infinity regardless. My relay doesn't seem to like these values.

Any suggestions? I'm still new to this so go easy on me if I sound like an idiot! :)

Thanks.

What polarity is the clutch trigger for starting ? (-) or (+) ? You can use a relay to trigger the clutch bypass through the starter wire.

I'm not sure how to test polarity, but the switch for the clutch is a N/O where when I press it the switch connects.

I got it working. For future reference, here's how:

85/86 - ground/5th relay output
30/87 - black-yellow/black-blue from the clutch switch

I'm not sure how Velocity Motors meant to use the starter wire, but I tried using the starter wire instead of 5th relay output (for some reason I forgot there was a 5th), and without a diode it activated the switch every time I turned the key.

Anyway, working good now.

Thanks for all the help.
