Hi,
I just installed a remote starter to a '97 Ford Explorer. The car has 2 IGN1 wires, I tied them together to IGN1 from remote starter.
When I plugged wires to the remote starter module I accidently swapped the wires, instead of (STRT, ACC, +12V, +12V, IGN1, IGN2)
I put (IGN2, IGN1, +12V, +12V, ACC, STRT). I tried to start the car, the car started on the second start. After a few try, right now I couldn't even start it with a key (I didn't install starter kill).
Another problem, when I put the key in, turn it to RUN position, turn off, remove key, the power was still on, light on dashboard on
just like key is still in the RUN Position. I then tested the wires with a meter, the 2 IGN1 wires (lt. grn/purple) still had power,
ACC, IGN2 didn't. I thought because I tied 2 ign1 wires together causing problem. I used a relay to separate the wires, problem still
existed. I removed all wires, problem still existed. I don't know what to do now. Please help, please give me some ideas. Thank you very much,

Unplug the ignition harness from the ignition switch and then test to see if there is still power on the grn/ppl wire. If there is still power look for a short elsewhere. If there is no power you will likely have to replace the ignition switch.

I have tried to unplug the ignition harness from the ignition switch already, the grn/ppl wire still had power.

Hey, The problem is with the control module with the remote start, i had a similar problem, after i received a new control module i checked my wiring, actually hooked it up to a relay, and everything works fine now-

You said you completely disconnected the remote start correct? Both of those 2 wires will be tied together in the ignition switch so if one is being held live so is the other. If you still have the remote start hooked up, unplug it as that is likely your problem. If it is not hooked up you have a short somewhere and will need to find it.

Yes, I completely disconnected the remote start and untied the two wires at the ignition switch. You're right, it sounds like I have a short circuit somewhere. I'll try to figure it out tonight.

I got that problem fixed, but got a different problem. The fuse for the starter relay (10A fuse inside the car) was burned out when I tried to start the car, replace with a new fuse, start, the fuse burned out. ???

I had a looping relay. Because there are 2 ign wires I used a relay for the 2nd wire. I didn't realize that the two ign wires were connected together.
