Some 4Runners with factory keyless entry/alarm have a dome supervision feature that turns on the interior light for 30 seconds when the doors are unlocked with the remote. Some don't (like mine) and I suspect it is related to whether or not the alarm was "port-installed."
Is there a way to test the different pinouts of the alarm module to figure out whether the dome supervision feature is there but simply not hooked up? The unit in question is called the Toyota VIP RS3200 keyless entry/alarm.
Thanks!
dei sheet says to hook to door trigger...
But the door trigger wire only sees ground when the door is opened. How might I test the unused pinouts to see if the 30-second dome delay is simply not hooked up? Can I use a test light between +12V and various pins to test for a ground that opens 30 seconds after disarming the alarm, or could I harm the alarm by doing this?
Do it with a meter..the test light might present too much of a load on something and burn it out. But chances are pretty good that if the wire is not on the harness..the feature is not there..but worth a check. Post back if you get no results..I can show you how to do it with a pulse timer and the unlock output of the keyless entry module.

master5--I would love to see how you would do this. I am very new to this stuff, so don't feel like you're going to insult me by providing too much information.
Just FYI--I am installing white Superflux LED footwell lighting as well as Luxeon rock lights (aka puddle lamps) that I would like to illuminate when I unlock the doors with the remote or during times when the vehicle doors are open. I will be using a separate switch for "off-on-auto."
Thanks very much!
Ken
Oh don't worry..anyone who knows me knows I have no fear of giving too much info..even if I am wrong..lol.
anyhow did you find out if there is a supervision output on that module yet?
If not you can use a pulse timer relay..DEI makes one but others may as well. There are several ways to wire it up but all you would need to do is tap the negative output for door unlock from the keyless entry module..connect it to the pulse timer negative input...set the length of time desired (it has a control) 0 to 90 seconds. Wire up constant 12v and ground....then wire the output of the timer to send negative to the door trigger wire..pretty basic and the timer comes with easy instructions.
to get all those other lights you are putting in to work the same....tap the door trigger wire to a relay...connect that to 85..put 86 and 30 to constant 12v fused..87 out to the positive feed of the lights..it will then work with the supervision as well as when you open the doors..you can use your switch to turn them on and off as you wish. You will not need diodes since everything is relay isolated.
Good Luck and post back if you need anything else.

Sounds great...one question though. If I unlock my doors while driving down the freeway will the dome light be triggered?
