I've been digging around these boards, and elsewhere on the web, for a week or so and am only coming up with partial answers to my questions. So I figured I'd throw it to you pros.

I'm looking to add remote start to an '03 Accord with factory keyless entry. I don't really want to add a whole new security system, just a remote start feature. I also want whatever new system I add to work with the existing factory keyfob, if at all possible. (Maybe holding down both buttons or something?)

Is what I'm hoping for even possible, given the design of the factory system? I keep seeing that the Accord disables the ignition after a remote start is activated. How does this impact what I hope to accomplish.

if you add a R/S to the car with the factory remote, when you start it it will disable the remote from working. you then can not unlock, panic or shut off your car by the remote.
advice: get a new remote that starts, pops trunk panic and locks for your car. it will have much better range than the factory remote.

Try looking at a dei valet 562t or valet 561r

a new remote star keyless entry will also arm and disarm your factory security. DEI 561R or Audiovox Prestige APS56

Allow me to answer your partial unanswer question as I have done 1 million times daily . Any factory feature you have on the factory remote at the moment, you should be able to request for them to be install on any newer design remote starter unit out there on the market today. The only odd design about the after market remote starter units is that you will not be able to activate your factory keyless entry if you have your vehicle under remote starting. That is it! The reason is that many of my remote starter installer colleauge has collaborated with Honda engineer to diable this feature in order to use this as add on sell feature to customer.

The remote starter does not disable ignition at all as some other people have told you, but infact if install properly it activates just as it would if you were to start the vehicle with the key. At this point I am not so sure what exactly you want to do, but if you want to use the your factory remote key to accomplish some of the work you are asking. I suggest you may want to reconsider some of the suggestion from the above poster. If you still insisted on trying to use the factory remote key to activate all the feature of a remote starter, I suggest you look for a shop that has some support on them if you run into problem. Since many of these unit lack installation feature, many shop opt not to carry them, instead carry the full feature unit for the ease of installation.

Thanks to all of you for the quick responses and knowlegabel advice.
I contacted the guys at https://www.luxurymotorworks.com/luxlink_remote_start.php their remote start promises to exactly what I need... Except it's never been tested on a Honda. Anybody know the harness and wire info I need? (If I'm leeching off of you guys that do this for a living. Just say the word and I'll troll elsewhere, but
a-- I'm way up in frea%ing Montana, I'm sure not stealing much business from y'all.
b--You're the experts, I figured I'd go to the best
and
c--If this product works like it says, you ought to know about it.
Again, I don't want a brand new supplimentary alarm system, the factory keyless entry and flashy-horn bit does just fine up here. I just want to add remote start using the factory keyfob.

Thanks Again !

drexx if you trust us for info then LISTEN to us. THERE IS NO REMOTE START THAT WILL USE THE FACTORY KEYPAD IN YOUR CAR AND ALLOW YOU TO UNLOCK THE CAR ONCE IT IS STARTED!!! It cannot be done. Intsead of wasting your money and time on a no name brand r/s just do what we say and buy a keyless entry remote start unit. Your factory keypad will still work. It just will not remote start the car. Use it as a back up or something. But please trust me when I say there is no r/s out there that will do it. I dont think that you understand that it is not a problem with most r/s that will not do what you want it to do - ITS YOUR CAR. So when this luxury motor place says that it has never been tested on your car, that pretty much means (if they are experienced) that it will NOT work the way you are describing!! Go with a DEI Valet 561R or equavilant. Theres no other way!!

Good luck
Hope you trust us here!
