Subject: identify Code Alarm System

So I was working under the hood of our recently purchased '96 Jetta and I noticed a wire going to the coil wire. Was marked "tach" so I figured there was a remote start or something installed. Looked under the dash and found a Code Alarm unit that has the following markings:
YDF
ZVW 288 111A
Can anyone identify for me? And can you point me to a manual and/or let me know if a replacement remote can be programmed & if it's worthwhile?
Thanks!
Todd

Call 1-800-421-3209 This is Code Systems tech support. They were great when I had some oddball systems of theirs.

Any pictures of the brain? Or even of the antenna?
Also, can you find the FCC ID # on the unit?
If you go to remotesunlimited.com and type in the FCC ID, they can sell you the remote you need, although they aren't the cheapest.
Is there a production date on the remote start brain? If it dates back to 1996, who knows if it would still work or not.......but if it is newer, it is probably worth a try.

Thanks for the replies guys. I found out on a VW site that it is apparently an alarm/remote entry. Seems like it would be remote start with the tach wire, but it could be for some function on the alarm I suppose.
I'll check with Code Alarm's suppport folks and probably remotesunlimited as well. Thanks again!
