Hi, I have a 2006 Subaru Forester. Base model. Automatic transmission. No special security key (pats). No alarm installed. Non turbo. I am looking for a good quality remote starter. I do not want a lot of bells and whistles. I do not need the two way communication back to the remote. I do not need an alarm system. The only other option, other then remote start, might be connecting to the electric door locks which the car already has. There are so many brands out there. I don't know which one has the best record for dependability and range. Any suggestions you might have would be greatly appreciated. If anyone has a wiring diagram for this car it would be appreciated. Thanks, Sid

How much is it you're looking to spend? Theres lots of options out there. A good place to start is your budget. I'm sure that'll help everyone who responds to help you choose better. ------------- A DMM is a beautiful thing.

Thanks for the reply. I knew I would leave something out. Price is not a big concern. I have seen starters from under $50 (probably junk) to well over $300 with alarms and video feedback. I am hoping that something around the $150 more or less would do the trick. Thanks, Sid

Ok well in that price range i'll suggest one from my own experiences. I'd recommend this Valet system...... https://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-VALET-561R-REMOTE-VEHICLE-START-SYSTEM-NO-MORE-ICE_W0QQitemZ230060938596QQihZ013QQcategoryZ33724QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem It's a basic system with remote start and keyless entry. And it's got a glass mounted antenna for better range. I helped a friend of mine install lhis particular system into his jeep, and he hasn't had any problems with the system at all. And he's happy with the price hey payed and range. Well that's all i can really suggest from my personal experiences. ------------- A DMM is a beautiful thing.

The link you sent did not open. I went to Ebay and searched for 561R. A lot came up, so I added 'ice' to the search. Are you cocoa1980? If I get that model, I might as well get it from someone on the forum. Thanks again. Sid

First, the factory Subaru remotes don't work with the engine running. For that reason, you'll probably want to add keyless from the aftermarket remotes, and maybe get a unit with a horn-honk output as well, if that's something you want.
I install Audiovox products, and they're very reliable and fairly installer-friendly.
Prestige APS-57: Remote start, keyless, two remotes.
Prestige APS-686T: Remote start, keyless, trunk (which you don't need), horn-honk, two remotes.
The remotes also look a little nicer than the APS-57, and one of them has a handy flashlight on the side.
The Prestige APS-687 replaces the APS-686T, but I don't think too many places are selling them yet.
