I have a 1994 Mustang Convt w/ factory keyless entry.

I have a Viper 550ESP Alarm/Remote Starter installed. I never got the alarm install finished, well at least the door lock part. Now when I bought the system they sold me a 451M relay module that supposedly my car needs. This is a five wire relay. Ne way when I check out some sights I see that my car is supposed to be a Type B system with factory relays in place that I can just send the alarm outputs to. Is this correct? If not then how do I hook up this DEI relay module. And what type of door lock system do I have? All the diagrams depict traditional relays and pinouts that I can follow. If you know how to wire up this relay please help.

Thanks for any help

Rem

Hi Rem, you can read the steps I have here to determine your door lock type: https://www.the12volt.com/doorlocks/doorlocks.asp#det

Here's what I have for a '94 Mustang: https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/detail.asp?info=alarm&year=1994&make=Ford&model=Mustang&ID=17830&type=Alarm

BTW, yours should be a 3 wire negative w/keyless, 5 wire alternating 12V+ w/o keyless.

Yeah, what the12volt said.  If it's got keyless, it has to have onboard relays too.

Here's another little trick I do, especially with Fords, since the same car can be built with or without the relays.

Be very quiet, and rock the lock/unlock button back and forth.  Listen for the factory relays somewhere behind the dash.  Also, closely watch the door lock knobs in the car, and listen to the motors in the doors----press and HOLD one of the lock/unlock buttons while doing this.  If the locks jump for one second and then rest, it has relays.  If the locks jump and stay there as long as you hold the button down, the car does not have relays.

Also, when you find those pink/green and pink / YELLOW wires, their thickness will give you a clue.  If they're on the thin side, the car should have built-in relays.

All you'll have to do is take the blue and green lock/unlock wires directly from the alarm, to the lock/unlock wires in the car.

So anyway, you take that 451M relay and put it in your toolbox and save it for another car.  Or you go to Circuit City or Best Buy, tell them you got the thing as a gift and you don't have the receipt; enjoy your $25 worth of free CDs.

Thanks for the info guys. Need some more help though.

I have factory keyless entry. When I hold the door lock button in position the motor keeps going. The factory door lock wires are pretty thick maybe about 14guage. I am guessing from this that the system is indeed 3-wire negative setup. I am going to have to use some relays. Can someone tell me how to wire up this 451M from DEI. It has three very thin wires with a connector that hookup to the alarm brain, then 5 additional thick wires. 1-PURPLE / black, blue/white, GREEN/ black, BROWN / black, forgot the last color. Ne way all help is appreciated. I did continuity test on the relay leads to see which ones were open/closed  when at rest etc. I am confused. Also since the alrm is supposed to send 200ma pulses shouldn't I be able to test for those with my multimeter?   I just wanna get this thing hooked up.

Thanks in Advance

REM
