Just wondering what other installers like me have as far as security in their car. 2 way or 1 way, DEI, models. Just to see whats popular.

I have a 5500 Viper start/ keyless with 556U.
Also just added sirius starmate replay (free after rebate radioshack.com) on a 2001 Taurus wagon

I just installed the 507M on my compustar, but it doesn't seem to be sensitive.  it is wired correctly to the instant trigger.

I just added the 508D or proximity/perimeter sensor since wiring it is easy already after wiring the 507T.  It works and I also found out that the schematics of compustar on their optional sensors are inverted.   meaning, the 1st stage input is actually 2nd stage and the 2nd stage is 1st stage.

Nice, very nice toys you rich kids got here! I am so jealous that my daddy never gave me enough money for any of the toys you guys got. You guys are bulldoodieing(BS) me when you tell me all of you are installer. I think most of you are Hobbyist and Volunteer Weekend Tester for electronic manufacture rather than a true Professional Installer. When was the last time you heard a car mechanic walk into a show room and pick up a brand new car for himself? That is unheard of among my mechanic buddy. Yes, a brand new car for their kids and wife, but never for themselves. If that ever happens within my professional circle it’s either a windfall or they are into illegal activities. Let me know if I am wrong on that assumption. posted_imageposted_imageposted_imageposted_imageposted_imageposted_imageposted_imageposted_imageposted_imageposted_imageposted_imageposted_imageposted_imageposted_image

Staying true to my profession, I have an Ultrastart starter some sort of model that I don’t recall, but was able to put together from other unit taken out of vehicles at the request of the customer. I have a simple starter kill that you have to put the seatbelt on to work and a on demand switch when activated you will require a small amount of dexterity to get it to work. If you are a bit wiz drunk, I don’t think you will be able coordinate yourself to get the car started.   I also have a put together Black Widow 200FM some sort alarm with a similar setup. I am waiting for a few more parts, then I will have myself a brand new Astro 502. These suckers are hard to come by. The one time that it did, I was on lunch and one of my colleagues threw it in the garbage not knowing I needed the parts. I wanted to pick it out, but there were craps all over it that I didn’t want to touch.

That my friend is what we live for and bragg about amoung a small group of pure and true installer who's got nothing but knowledge and time on some idle tuesday afternoon.    posted_image

I'm not an installer, just personally installed the compustar 2W900FMR /AS  on my 2006 evoIXMR which was nice since no shop would install a remote start on a manual transmission locally.  I just added to this thread to know what other gadgets do actual installers have and any input on the 507m and 508d.  anything else that I can add, now that I have the alarm fully installed?

Do you have the song bird siren installed?  Do you sell Code Alarm and if so don't you get tired of all the Code bashing that goes on.  I have 2002 300m with a PC7600 with some add ons.  You just can't beat the built on features of a CA-530 and 630.

Kevin,

I thought my comment will get a few of you feather up. To be fair to you, I know you are one of the blue collar guys on this forum from reading the post you have made over the years.   I just wanted to ruffle a few feather when I saw a few people were putting in next year’s product line. Timing, I waited patiently for the “true blue professional installer” to make their post as you call it and couldn’t resist rounding them up with the weekend installer and the DIY.   You seem to be the one of a few with many posts that got caught in my round up! No bad intention here Kevin, just poking a bit of humor at the pro. on this forum. You still have my utmost respect. posted_image

“i take it you must work for a box store”

Unfortunately, no. I don’t believe I would last a day at a box store with my out spoken attitude. However, I think I would have to if I started my career late say at this point. There is no way to practice and learn all of the new stuff coming out without having a box store to cover your butt if you mess up. Also, I think I would probably not be hired for not having the mepc or mpce paper, some call it cert..

“most of the true professional installers i know in the business make a very good living....”

Less true now Kevin with the addition of the boxes, those that are still doing good are able to find a niche market and doing good work as well as keeping a core of old customer.    Pop up your own place now without your core customer. You could be going from pay slip to pink slip in less time than for this post to close.

You wouldn't guess in a million years what I make working at a "box" store. Mind you we're only a regional chain and onyl 26 stores. I believe that you make what you work, and you won't make anything if you're lazy.
