I installed an avital 4100 remote start in a 2001 pontiac aztek using a 457gw bypass. Everything was working fine after the install. It would start with the key and the remote start without any problems. after reassembling the dash panels it will start fine with the remote but does not crank with the key. I checked all connections all look good. Occasionally it does start with the key. About once every thirty tries.Any one have any ideas. I checked for codes with a scan tool and get a bunch of codes for the anti theft system. Should I be using a different bypass even though it work ok with the rs.

Yeah I ended up just wiring in a 480 ohm resistor into one of the lock/unlock wires. Don't really need the module for the locks. The resistor is much easier than hooking up the wires on the door lock interface.

I am not sure why the key is not working. I was able to program the bypass and it is working fine just no crank from the key. I am thinking that I could just ground the switch wire on the bypass and leave it on and the key would probably work but I shouldn't have to do that. Could I have reversed the wires or something like that. Directions for the bypass says the module is above the gas pedal. On this model it is on the key cylinder.

is it possible you have a loose connection on the ignition switch itself??  did you unplug the harness to get to the wires?

the only difference between the R/S starting the vehicle and using the key is the physical function of turning the key in the ignition... i would check for a loose or slightly unplugged connector on the ign switch itself.....

check and make sure you didn't push the immobilizer ring to far away from the edge of the steering shroudd.
