When I install, DEI remote starts, I always set it to voltage since it is easier. Is it better though to use the tach wire instead or are they both the same?

tach is better, but voltage is easier but some cars do not like it. it needs the tach signal

tach is definately more realiable in my opinion, but voltage is easier to do if you dont have the time to find a tach wire.. If you are running a hoodpin wire into the engine compartment its usually a smart idea to run the tach wire in there as well. This way you can hook up the tach wire while your under the hood, or if its your own vehicle you can set it to voltage and then find the the tach wire at a later date when u get more time.

I've seen a weak alternator- not allow the voltage method to work- in which case the tach was used- I use the voltage method about 70 % of the time- with no comebacks-- The new databus modules (GM - SL I believe) now have the tach signal available as an output from the databus bypass module- to feed directly into your r/s brain- so no wires to run underhood-- I have yet to try one of these- but sure does sound nice for the installer.... ------------- Brcidd - Engineer That Does Remote Starter Installs on the side.

voltage is a guess when the car is on. if the car starts voltage will still crank the starter for the preset time. Tach monitors the engine for over rev and the tach for when the car starts and cuts power to the starter so it does not wear out the starter prematurely.
Tach is easy to get at any fuel injector or coil usually.

also the idata modules have a tach output to hook up to , so no tach wire goes to the engine compartment, this is for GM and some Chrysler vehicles

What is the function for this 2 wire..Tach and voltage...From the manual its said..To check engine...Ist correct, if the auto start cranking the engine..But fail to start..this either 2 wire will detect either the engine already start or not...If the engine fail to start...The auto start will try to start again automatically...without need to to off and on again the autostart... Coz i facing a problem in the morning..Autostart fail to start my car...I wait another 3 minutes..But the autostart not trying to start again...What I have to do...I have to use my remote to off and on again the autostart...for 2-3 times...than auto start can start my engine..In worst scenario...I have to start using key....This happen only in the morning after my car rest for the whole nite.. Any idea why? Thank You

If you have a problem with your r/s not working in the morning and dont have a tach wire hooked up you can do two things hook up your tach or bump up your crank time i recomend both just for that longer crank time on them cold days ------------- jerry_m

The guys install my auto start not hhok the Tach Wire...Do u think that the problem my auto start not trying to re-start automatically? Normally, how long the auto start try to re-start automatically? Thank you
