02 Lincoln LS R/S Problems

A friend of mine is installing a Viper 791Xv in a 02 Lincoln LS.  He called me last night and said the car wouldn't crank during remote start.  I checked out all the wires going to the ignition harness and all are connected to the proper wire and meter the proper voltage.  He is using a 556U for the bypass module.  I havent had the chance to install on these cars so Im in the dark on what works and doesnt work.  Any ideas of what it could be?

When you attempt to remote start does it do anything?

Yes the remote start does everything but engage the starter.  The radio and climate controls come on, the steering wheel moves, everything but engage the starter.

Is the hood pin connected ? If so make sure the wire's not grounding anywhere.

Did he cut the starter wire to use the 791's starter kill? If so, make sure that the 2 starter wires arent reversed. Green should be key side and purple should be starter side.

Does the theft light flash rapidly during the remote start sequence? If so disconnect your 556u and stick a key in the ignition (it must be a key that will start the truck). Do not turn the key, just stick it in the ignition and try to remote start the truck. If it starts you have a bypass problem, if it does not start and you still have the same problem then you have an improper connection somewhere.

You said that you metered all of the wires and that they had proper voltage. Make sure that when you remote start it that the starter side of the starter wire is being powered. Also verify that if he didnt use the starter kill that he used the purple wire to power the starter wire.    If he used the green wire to power the starter or if the purple and green wires are reversed the remote start will try go through its cycle but the starter wire will never get energized and will react exactly as you have described.

test the starter wire while remotley starting see if there is power comming from the unit.

Thanks, we tried placing the key in the ignition cylinder and remote starting the car.  Still the starter would not engage.  I'll have him re connect the main ignition wires and see what happens.

It really sounds like the starter is not getting power when remote started. You need to verify that the purple wire on the remote start is being powered when you remote start it and you need to make sure that the purple wire is going to the starter side of the starter wire.
