I just got my hornet 554t, and read through the install manual. I haven't purchased my 451m yet, and I'm wondering if this can be done just as easily with relays? Do I have to bypass the factory keyless entry? I want a backup battery/siren, as well as a window roll module, and a channel expander for the future. Can I just add these in whenever I want to? Where should I use diodes?

Just piggyback the keyless entry wires. POWER LOCK|ORANGE / purple *1 |5wi|driver door harness | POWER UNLOCK|pink/purple *1 |5wi|driver door harness Use this diagram: 5 Wire Alternating 12 Volts Positive Door Locks and use two relays to accomplish this. You can add all the items you listed at anytime. Just more work for you everytime you ahve to take the dash apart. ------------- Jeff

do i have to cut the lead from the switch to the motor, and put the relay inline there, or can i just tap in at the harness in the kickpanel. also, how do i use diodes? by the way, I ordered my 451m off of ebay already

You can do either. It is easier to grab the wires at the door and run new wires through the boot. I have done both. You have to be carefule if you are going into the driver's kickpanel for the door lock wires when you strip them back. Make sure that you do not accidentally short the wires to ground. As far as diodes are concerned... is this a general question or are you asking it in regards to the installation of the RS system into the truck ? Here is an over view of the diodes and how they work : https://www.the12volt.com/diodes/diodes.asp ------------- Jeff

so do the wires from the switch run through the relay pack to get to the motor, or is the relay pack just tapped into the wires? where do i use diodes on RS thanks much

The wires run throught the BCM ( relay pack ) in the cab and then go to the motor in the doors. Diodes are used to isolate flow of current to a wire. Used for door triggers, alarm sensors, etc.

so i don't have to cut the connection between the switch and motor? sorry if these questions all seem the same, i'm just going for clarity, i don't want to be out of a vehicle. thanks, mike

You do have to cut the wire but you can cut it at the door by the switch or you can cut the wire at the driver's kick panel. The only difference is that the kick panel wires are alot shorter and harder to get at than the ones in the door itself.

ok thanks, i think i got it now. because the doorlock circuit runs to every door, the switch wire and the motor wires will all be in the harness in the kickpanel, and i can just tap in there I think I'll install the alarm/remote start today, and install the door locks when my 451m comes in. I think in the meantime, i'll still be able to use the factory keyless.

Yup, you got it. You can use the OEM keyless even after you install the 451M. All your doing it piggybacking the system so all OEM functions are retained.
