Is the viper 591xv compatible with a data bus interface. (plug & play)

It has a data port but i assume that is for the bitwriter only. it is going

in a 2006 silverado 2500HD with a GM-SL2

I put a 591 in a 2004 GMC Sierra 2500HD using the interface module recommended by Directed Electronics.

It interfaces with the truck's data bus thru the purple wire on the OBD 2 plug under the dash.  It does the door locks and the passlock bypass thru the data bus, don't connect the passlock wires in the steering column or the door locks directly.  The data port is for programming with the bitwriter or PC. It does not connect to the truck.  Programming is easy with the valet button and watching the LED flashes as described in the manual.

Good luck, it is a great unit with outstanding range.

I used the DEI 457GW Combo Interface, the same one recommended for your truck.

You can get it on e-bay for about half the price that directedstore.com charges.
