I have installed a Bulldog R/S in a 2001 Taurus. This remote is their basic model (RS82, as all I needed was R/S. The car already has factory remote keyless entry and security system.
In preparation for this project I have spent about a week reading the forums here. (thanks for all the great info)
I got the unit installed and it worked fine using the supplied remote
I am having trouble getting the function for using the factory remote to start the vehicle.
The instruction manual says to use the auxiliary input wire from the R/S box and connect it to the door lock wire, connect directly if negative, use relay to reverse polarity if this is positive. Unit is supposed to start the vehicle by pushing the lock button on factory remote three times.
From reading on this forum I found out that the door lock wire on this car is pink / YELLOW, is a negative polarity and should be found at the GEM.
I followed the instructions to put the unit into the mode to use the factory remote and connected the auxiliary input wire to the pink / YELLOW wire coming out of the large connector coming out of the bottom of the GEM. When I push the lock button three times the car does not start.
I thought maybe I didn't get the unit into the correct mode so I disconnected the auxiliary input wire from the pink / YELLOW wire and tried touching the auxiliary wire to ground three times, the vehicle did start then.
Any help pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry for the lengthy post, trying to be thorough in my description.

That negative may not be strong enough to trigger the Bulldog.
Use a relay off the lock leg of the actuator motor, DEI lists the wire as pink/black at the top plug of fusebox.
Wire the relay like:
Pin 85: Ground
Pin 30: Ground
Pin 86: Pink/Black actuator lock wire
Pin 87: To bulldog's input wire
The pink/black wire will rest at ground and go to positive when locking.
Hope this helps

The pink / YELLOW is the wire that connects to the door lock switch on the armrest. It doesn't do anything when the keyless entry remote is used to lock/unlock the door.
