has anybody heard of remote starters damaging alternators????? Idid a remote starter on a Honda Odyssey 2003. This morning custumer calls me and says his car won't start. So, I assume he left something on. I go to his house the Battery is dead, I jump start car, it works fine, alternator checks fine. Ireally think he left something on. I did the car over a month ago, it has worked with no problems. The funny thing is the he says he read something about remote starters damaging alternators the day the battery dies. any input will be apreciatted. thanks. p.s I did tach.

Never have I heard that a RS would have any adverse affect on the alternator. Generally speaking, the alternator has nothing really to do with the operation of a RS other than supplying power to the electrical system & it's components . The alternator has no function other than powering the RS. If they had problems with the HVAC or power doors locks, then I would say look into it more, but I would not worry about it too much.

Well its not entirely impossible but not likely. If the proper ignition wires are not powered up the alternator might not charge. this shouldn't really do any damage to the alternator though.
I would get the car in the shop and test the draw. If it is hi then unplug the remote start and see what it is. Remember it takes a long time for a car to power down and could read hi for up to half an hour after closing the doors.
There should be no more then around 20ma draw. Typically most cars with nothing added on will draw around 8-10ma.
if it worked when it left then it is not a bad install . it could be product failure but not likely. all you are doing is duplicating the key . it sounds like you have a nervous nellie customer who might comeback for every little glich.
