I'm installing a Bulldog 200 remote start system. I can get the engine to turn over, but not long enough to start. I need to hook up the wire that runs to the tach. I know where to find the harness, but I'm not sure of which wire. (The instructions say the black wire in the #5 pin) I'm looking for the #5 pin. If anyone has a picture, or can give exact info on which one it is, I would be most greatful.

you can catch black inside........but heres another way. go to a fuel injector.......each injector will have four wires, 3 of the colors will be the same on all four injectors, use the one color that is different.

yes. The car has an anti-theft key. (I had to loop the wire connected to a spare key around the ignition going to a bypass box that connects to the main box) I assume this is what you're talking about.

MIkvot, those are the coils, not injectors. The coil closest to the oil cap, use the white wire...

Ah, that's the hard way.

Around the instrument cluster is a black plastic trim panel. On the top of the trim panel is one plastic "screw" that is part of a little clip to keep the panel in place.

Remove the "screw", remove the clip that's in there with it, and pop the black panel off.

You don't have to mess with the instrument cluster itself. You can see the wires coming straight out the top, with just enough room to work.

Starting from the extreme left (driver's side) edge of the wiring, catch the FIRST black wire you see----that's tach.

I've tried that and always end up cussing at the stupid little plastic screw! It never cooperates with me.....

Thanks for all of the help. Come to find out, my problem was the ingnition wasn't reading the transponder from the spare key. I had to take the chip out of the key and mount it beside the ignition. Works great now.

On most new toyotas you can grab tach at the OBDII connector. Its black and I think its at pin 10. Don't worry, I know it sounds scary but tagging it there doesn't affect a scan tools ability to read anything.

Northstart.....or start it your damn self.
