Just a couple of questions before I start this install:
1. The posts I've found on the site suggests that there is an immobilizer on this model. However, my key doesn’t have a transponder on it and the vehicle starts fine… Are there immobilizers that use a different technique that a transponder key?
2. Both the install guide and wiring diagram do not list a horn connection. The closest connection I think is the aux 1 output, any suggestions for the connection to use?
3. Prostart offers an OEM starter kill kit. Any one know of the advantages of using this kit as opposed to building your own with a relay? Any experiences?
4. Vehicle doesn’t have power door locks or windows, but may have a trunk release actuator. It doesn't have a security system either, is it alright to leave the lock/unlock and arm/disarm not connected?

Well...the tech info I have shows a transponder....? Does the car start with a plain old metal key (no plastic on the handle) Your horn is in a small blue connector to the right of the stearing column. Its a green wire, NEG(-) trigger, BUT, you are correct...you have no horn output. If theunit came with a pre-wired starter kill relay....use it! The trunk release is yellow/black in a grey plug in the drivers kick no problem with leaving the locks unwired.... -------------

The car starts with a plain old metal key, no plastic on the handle.
I suppose I could get away without wiring the horn, and just rely on the blinking of the parking lights, but it'd be nice to have an audible signal.
The unit doesn't come with a pre-wired starter kill. The optional kit costs $26 CAD... but if it is just a relay and a diode, I'd rather just buy those components at radio shack and make a starter kill my self.

Just phoned a mazda dealership. The service guy says that this model doesn't come with an immobilizer.

I am using the same product, but different vehicle 1997 F150 I have a couple problems. 1 - can this be used only as a comand start and not a alarm? Or do I need to hook up both for it to work? 2 - Last night I hooked up everything except the alarm, and I had it so I could get the parking lights to flash, but unable to get the vehicle to start (did not hook up alarm side, as I do not have power doors) 3 - This morning after some research I figured I hooked up one of the ignition wires incorrectly I changed it (still has 12 volts all the time) and the parking lights do not flash now, I changed it back to how it was last night and still they do not flash. 4 - I have the 2 wire harness to hook upto the neg parking light. My truck doesn't have that, if I just hook it up to the parking light it makes a loud buzzing noise. Do I need this wire hooked up?? Thanks

1. From the documentation, it seems that this unit can work with an alarm, but the alarm system needs to be purchased seperately or hooked into the factory one.
2. Not sure about this, but does your truck have an anti-theft system installed? Some sites suggest that a PATS system may be installed and thus you would need to bypass it.
The system shouldn't make noises, if you cannot get it to respond normally, you may need to take it back to get a new control module.

It took quite some time to install, probably 13 hours, over three days. I can really appreciate all the work that professional installers do!
On a per hour basis, it would have been cheaper for someone else to do it, but now I know...

A PDF file with some pictures of the install and a wiring guide has been uploaded: 99mazdawpics.zip. Camera battery died before I could get pictures of the complete install. What was left out was the tie strapping of the module to a metal harness and the routing/tie strapping of the wire bundles...
Do some research on soldering automotive connections,etc. and if you're not comfortable with any of the steps, don't start, just take your car to a pro... it's probably harder to fix a mess, than to start new.
