Have installed combo alarm/remote start.  Alarm works fine, but car will not remote start.  Both starter wires have been connected correctly.  When remote is activated the seat belts begin to secure themselves, then they stop and the remote process stops.  The engine is never cranked.  The Disarm wire (Blk/Orange) by Anti-Theft Module has been connected.  Would grounding this wire take the factory alarm out of the equation, or do I have the wrong wire?   It does probe - when doors unlocked, but if there is another color or location, please pass info on to me. If anyone has done this car before please email at wev617@comcast.net with info. I used directechs, omega CD, and the12volt as wiring sources. In addition, the pit  stop feature of the remote start does work, which verifies connections of ignition harness.  Any assistance would be appreciated.  Thank You.

I've owned 3 Maximas total (including a 2002 now).  I know that Nissan uses a dual-starter setup.  Most remote start units only come with 4 relays, but the Maxima requires a 2nd starter relay.  However, I'm not too familiar with the 90 Max and it's setup.  I will give you a couple of things to check, though.

Nissan's brake wire normally has 2 switches.  One switch shows +12v when the pedal is pressed, the other switch shows Ground.  Make sure you have the correct switch wired (depending on your alarm inputs) so that the brake pedal isn't wired the opposite way.  A quick test of this is to remote start the car while pressing the brake pedal.  If the car starts, then you wired the wrong wire (or if there is only 1 wire, you'll need a relay to change the voltage).

Next, Nissan uses 2 starters.  Make sure you have both starter wires being tapped.  In the Service Manual, Nissan shows that the starter wires are connected together.  But they are only connected inside the Ignition switch AND ONLY when the key is turned.  So you'll have to wire up another relay to the 2nd starter wire.  This problem took 2 hours of my install time from me when I did mine.

Next, does your car have the factory security?  If so, it may (probably not) have a key transponder unit.  To test if it does, simply hold the key next to the key cylinder while remote starting the car.  If the car starts when you hold the key next to the ignition cylinder, but not when you don't, then you'll need a key transponder.

Lastly, if all else fails, talk to some of the people over on https://forums.maxima.org/.  I'm a member there as well, and the information that they have focuses specifically on Maximas.  Check out the Audio and Electronics forum and post there if necessary.  I guarantee that someone there has installed a remote start on a 90 before (3rd Generation).  Hopefully this helps.  Good luck.
