I did a remote start install in a 2005 Chevrolet Impala yesterday.  I could not get the Trunk release to work at all.  I tried everything!!!  Well at least it felt like I tried everything.  Does anyone know the relay setup for this.  I was doing 87 & 86 12V, 85 Alarm Output, 30 Trunk release switch.  It sounds like the relay may click but it is real weak.  I don't know what I did wrong. GRRR.  Now I found out the guy wants the stupid horn honk hooked up too, so I need a relay diagram for that too.  I did some searching and basically found all the stuff I have already tried, so I figured I would post.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My tech info says the trunk pop is NEG(-) It's a black wire at the BCM, in the 16 pin gray connector, pin A4.

You need to tell us what YOU tagged on to.

Sorry, Yes, the black wire that I tagged onto is "Trunk/Hatch Release black   -   BCM, gray 16 pin plug, pin A7"  I pulled that off of this website.  Is it supposed to be pin A4 on the 16 pin connector instead??

Remember...test the wire with your DMM before throwing any voltage....

Purple with white off of compustar is neg. output for trunk.  Horn honk is white also neg trigger shouldn't need a relay for either, and always verify with a dmm before you tag it.

I have another dumb question.

How can I test the violet/white wire on the compustar with a DMM to see if it is operating correctly, both standalone and when the button is pressed on the remote??  I have been trying everything to make this work and I just seems to be not working for me.  I have a bad feeling that something may be malfunctioning in the brain of the unit.

Thanks in advance

Easy.

Set meter for voltage. Put red meter probe to constant power. Put black meter probe onto Compustar's trunk-release wire. Observe meter while operating remote.

Regardless, the BCM on that car is in a sucky location to work, and going there is entirely unnecessary.

You can get trunk release right at the switch on the dash. As others have said, straight negative trigger; no relay.

Thanks.

I know that is how to test it, but I don't know what readings I should be seeing, Sorry I should have been more specific??

I get 12Volts all the time, and then when I hit the remote it drops off to 7 Volts and then goes back up to 12 Volts.  I don't know if my meter isn't fast enough to go all the way to zero during the pulse or if it never makes it there.  Also, I don't know if that is the readings I should be seeing in the first place.

Thanks
