I did an install for a 99 mercury villager and i had a problem with the door locks. On one of my paper works it says red for lock and RED / black for unlock but it says negative and it says to find it in the door harness. but on the another paper work it says that its a positive so im confused if its a negative or a positive. Any help is appreciated and thanx in advance.

this is one of the paper works.

Door LockRed (+) 10 Pin Connector Driver's Door Boot
Door UnlockRED / Black (+) Positive Door Trigger
Driver's LockGREEN/ YELLOW Left Kick Panel
Driver's UnlockWHITE/ Green Left Kick Panel
Passenger UnlockWHITE/ Red Right Kick Panel

the other one is

power lock-----red---------(-)  either door harness

power unlock------RED / black-----------(-)either door harness

see why im confused..

im just confused cause i dont know if i should try the red and RED / black or other wires. I used the dmm and with one it would go from 0 to 12 volts but then when i connect the alarm it would not lock or unlock so just wondering if i should stay with red and RED / black or the other wires the paper work says.

Dei list it as negative need to test by turning key in cylinder.

I find DEI wiring info is always very accurate, but I always test all wires with a DMM-You need to, unless you did the same car yesterday & even then it's a good idea to check again.

power lock-----red---------(-)  either door harness

power unlock------RED / black-----------(-)either door harness

Notes: Meter this wire while turning the key in the door key cylinder.

These are the wires that are the easiest to use.
