Adding trunk locks to 1999 Toyota Avalon

With my CarPC and Mobile Router now in the trunk of my Avalon, I'd like to secure the trunk lid a bit more.

The OEM lock is controlled via manual cable release from the handle pull on the floor next to the driver's seat.

If my car was broken into, easy access to the trunk would be possible via the trunk release cable. Even if the valet lock was locked, I think the cable could be pulled with a small pry-bar and pliers.

Although a novice, I was not able to easily remove the back seat back from inside the car when I was running wire to the truck. So I think for a thief, getting into the trunk that way is a no-go if timing is crucial.

I'd like to add a 2 locks inside my trunk to secure the lid to the rear quarters. Maybe a couple of solenoids??

If anyone has hardened a trunk lid from exterior entry via prying or popping the lock cylinder, I'd love to hear your ideas.

Is your car protected with an alarm? Is the trunk trigger hooked up? Dont let anyone know what you have in there. Disconnect your cable for the release in the trunk so you can only use your key to get in. All this should be enough protection to prevent/deter theft of equipment. If you want more, you might try linear actuators custom mounted underneath your trunk lid on each side which would be very expensive. A cheap way out would be to get a Protector hood lock system and custom mount for your application

Good points. Perhaps I am over-thinking this. I do have an alarm. I assume the trunk is protected but have not tested it (will do that soon!). I like your idea of just unhooking the trunk release cable (at the lock).
