Hopefully someone can help me out.

I have a 2002 Olds Alero, 4dr, automatic transmission.  I purchased a CT-3300 Prostart remote starter from Canadain Tire to install.  I also purchased a Passlock 2003 bypass module to bypass the Passlock II system.  I had hooked everything up but the car would not ever turn over (aslo dont think i managed to program the transmitter)

A couple of questions;

1.  The instructions say to hook the park light to (-) but alero only has (+) park light wire.  Also this wire is located in the passanger kick panel but there are about 4-6 brown wires in this harness, which one do i use or does it matter?

2. Do I need to hook up both ignition wires?

3.  What additional relays or diodes do I need to hook up the door locks, and trunk release.

Appreciate any help you can provide.  Thx.

1) Use youe DMM...also the parking lights POS(+) can be found behind the radio, in the top harness of the radio, brown.

2) Yes

3) Yes you will need some resistors. 1500ohms thru ground to lock, staight ground to unlock, use relays to be sure your signal is STRONG.

1. you have to test for what wire powers up when you turn on the switch- if you have a negitive output you will need a relay to power your parking lights

2. yes  both ignition wires need to be hooked up and powered during cranking - pink wire and green wire behind igntion cylinder

3.depends on where you get them. You can tie into the factory relays or on driver side there is wires that a negitive but you will need a resistor for the doorlocks.

So if I hook into the (+) wire for the parking lights will it work or does it have to be (-).?

You can hook up the (+) under the driver's dash. Use a DMM to test for it and it will be the only BROWN wire that has texture on the insulation. The other BROWN wires are smooth in texture.

Great thanks.  I was wondering if there was a closer spot to hook it up cause the wiore coming from the starter does not reach to the passenger kick panel.

I'll try all of this out this weekend.  Dont think i'll have time enough to do it in the evenings now.

If this is your first car, you chose a difficult one. The most important thing is to make sure you take your time & don't make any mistakes. That's my philosophy. If you don't screw up, you are already ahead of  the game. First of all you need to use a digital multimeter to test all wires that you plan to use. You stated there are multiple brown wires for parking lights. It does matter which wire you use. You need to test each one until you find the one that goes to 12 Volts when you turn on the vehicles parking lights. If the remote start unit doesn't have a 12+ output, you will need a relay to reverse the voltage. I will try to post a diagram detailing that.

you can also tap into the dimmer wire behind radio.  Why it works, no clue, but it does with no problems.

Is the dimmer wire also brown?

The dimmer wire is gray behind the radio. But there is also a brown wire going to the radio. Use the brown wire -KarTuneMan already explained it above. It's OK to use the dimmer wire, but it will be affected by the position of the dimmer switch. Why have that?-Do it right. As I recall, you have to remove the radio in that car to access the ignition wires comfortably anyway. There you go!

Convert a Negative Output to a Positive Output
If you have a switch or an alarm or keyless entry that has a negative output that you wish to use to switch a device that requires 12V+ such as a horn, dome light, parking lights, head lights, hatch release, etc., wire a relay as shown below to convert the negative output (trigger) to a positive output.

I have a 2002 Olds Alero 4dr, automatic (3.4 litre) transmission with Passlock.

Currently have Passlock 2003 and Prostart 3360 remote starter (canadian tire) installed.  I have read through A LOT of posts on this regarding hooking up rear defrost to remote starter and I think I am more confused now.  The posts show different ways to install and some talk about timers and the threads seems to wander all over the place.

What I would like to do is have my rear defrost come on when I start the car with my remote starter, operate on its timer as usual, and still have the functionality to operate it manually when I am in the car.  It would also be nice to have the option to turn this feature off and on so it doesnt do it in the summer if I turn on the car to activate the A/C.

I would really appreciate any help and advice.

Got everything installed OK.  I'm just waiting for a relay to come in the mail to hook up the trunk release.  Thanks everyone.

The trunk release is (-) at the driver's kick panel and doesn't need a relay to trigger.
